A DEBT counselling charity has revealed that the majority of families are worried about the cost of Christmas.
Edinburgh-based Christians Against Poverty (Cap), commissioned YouGov to carry out the survey of more than 2000 adults, revealing 76 per cent of people are worried about Christmas due to the financial cost, with a further 15 per cent not looking forw
ard to the festive season as a result.

Nearly one in three respondents confessed that they did not budget at all for Christmas.

The charity has been operating a debt counselling centre in Morningside Baptist Church for a year.

Jill Smith, Edinburgh Cap centre manager, said: "It is no surprise, given the recent economic crisis, that people in Edinburgh are worried about the cost of Christmas and we are also concerned that many still do not budget adequately to survive the festive season.

"The good news, though, is that we can offer hope and solution to those caught in debt in Edinburgh. Through our centre within Morningside Baptist Church, we can offer our award-winning and free service to those who need it, especially at this critical time."

Visit the charity's website at www.capuk.org for some tips to survive Christmas financially.

Why should anyone be worried about the cost of christmas? The christmas weekend will cost me no more than any other typical weekend. In fact, it will probably cost me less because the pubs won't be open.

Why worry. If the moneys not there it's not there.
Explain to your kids the situation and get on with it.

Plunging further into debt just so tyrone can have the latest gadget is plain stupidity. People must learn to live within their means, no matter how depressing that concept is.

Halfing the x-mas carry oot will also help.

just buy what is within your means and save for bigger items, there is too much pressure on parents to buy expensive toys and games and a lot of advertising is aimed specifically at kids, funny,it always puzzles me how folk who dont work can afford to get designer clothes and expensive toys for their (many)kids?

If you cant afford it dont get into debt. Just tell them Santa has not been because they have misbehaved. You can always give wee presents later on when they HAVE behaved and said that Santa was waiting on them behaving. Well maybe not but it was just an idea
