BOROUGHMUIR are only just getting into full stride as their defence of the Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership faces another derby examination this weekend – at Heriot's.
That's today's message from one of the stars of the champions' latest success, by 35-9 against Watsonians at Myreside on Saturday.
No.8 Ewan Matheson warned: "We were beaten here last year and all the boys came really fired up. We've not been play
ing well these past few weeks but things started to come right again.
"This was probably our best performance this season but there is still a lot of improvement to come.
"There's a few tough weeks ahead against Heriot's and Ayr and we are going to have to step up again to keep on winning."
Matheson also told the 'Muir website that the most heartening aspect of this fourth straight win was the quality of the team's defence.
"It turned out to be very convincing, four tries to nil, which is what we came for. Last week we leaked a couple of soft tries and there was a lot of pressure on our line for the last ten minutes but we managed to hold out."
Equally satisfied with a win which moves 'Muir into second place, four points behind Ayr, was impressive centre Malcolm Clapperton.
He said: "There was a bit more structure, a bit more discipline and that showed in the result. We're getting better week on week and that can only bode well going into the Heriot's match. We trained a bit better during the week.
"A few guys got a bit of stick from the coaches for not performing as we know they can and these players stood up."
Saturday's Premiership programme sees a further Capital derby with Edinburgh Accies awaiting Watsonians whose web-site provoked some soul searching in a summing up which stated: "A bad day at the office for 'Sonians who, despite hooker Gregor Wood's best promptings, looked off the pace from kick off."
EDINBURGH RUGBY'S team for a reserve friendly at Glasgow today is: Thompson, Turnbull, MacRae, Easson, Teague, Hutton, Meyer, Traynor, Lawrie, McNeil, McKenzie, Nimmo, Crombie, Fusaro, S Cross (captain).
