Lafferty: I'm not at Rangers to warm the bench
RANGERS newcomer Kyle Lafferty has no intention of sitting on the sidelines and admiring the view at Ibrox.
The 20-year-old is one of three forwards brought to Ibrox this summer for a combined total of around £7 million, alongside ex-Hibs star Kenny Miller and former Hearts striker Andrius Velicka.
Provided no forwards leave, they face competition from last season's top scorer, Kris Boyd, Jean-Claude Darcheville and Daniel Cousin, the strikers Walter Smith used most in the club's run to the UEFA Cup final.
Lafferty is determined to hold down a regular place but he will not mope on the touchline if he is left out. "I'm not just looking forward to bidding for a place in the side," the former Burnley forward said.
"I don't really want to play two or three games at a time then get dropped for a couple as well.
"It is important for me to make a good impression, although I know how difficult that will be with the number of strikers that are at the club. I'm not 21 until September so I know I'm at the stage where I'll have to work my socks off to get into the team."
