Ferguson injury unrelated to last season's problem

RANGERS manager Walter Smith has revealed that Barry Ferguson's ankle injury is "totally unrelated" to the problem that plagued him for much of last season.
The club yesterday confirmed their captain faces up to four months on the sidelines after tests showed he needed surgery to repair ankle ligament damage.

Ferguson underwent an operation to repair the same problem on his right ankle in April 2006 a
fter taking injections to play through pain caused by wear and tear for much of that season.

And the Scotland midfielder endured similar treatment last term after being hindered by what was described as an ankle problem. Rangers believed Ferguson would be cured by a summer of rest but the 30-year-old suffered an injury to his left ankle in one of the first sessions of pre-season training. The Ibrox boss said: "Barry had the problem with his foot throughout last season and took an injection. But this is totally unrelated. He basically went over on his ankle and that was it. He's had it scanned and it turns out he's damaged ligaments – but it's not the problem he had previously.

"I know it was described as his ankle last season, but it was more to do with the base of his foot."

Rangers will now step up their search for a new midfielder but Smith has warned that Fulham may price them out of a permanent deal for Steven Davis.

The Barclays Premier League club are said to want £4 million for the Northern Ireland international, who impressed on loan at Ibrox in the second half of last season.

"Steve Davis is obviously a player we know, but the money Fulham are talking about is too much for us," he said.

Surely Dailly can play the Bazza holding role in midfield?

Sums up Rangers squad. One player out and it's panic stations. What if they don't get Davis? Who in the current squad will replace Ferguson?
And it's not a blow for Scotland. Ferguson strangles the rest of the team of movement. Well, when he decides to turn out for his country anyway.

PS - When's Rangers eejit chairman going to update us all on his £700m redevelopment? He boldly declared in March that this one is for real and that the cynics will eat their words when he hoped to announce it in May. Surely he wouldn't lie or twist facts to the supporters and media?

Might as well just hand us four-in-a-row right now!

No harm to Barry (8) but there are stories floating around that he is effectively done. All kidding and joking aside, that would be a shame if true because he's one of only two from the darkside (Cuellar being the other) who would get within an ass's roar of Celtic's first team.

As for No.3's question, apparently Sir Moonbeams has asked for May to be extended.

#1 dont be so ridiculous, dailly is not good enough, how could you think that unless you are a celt*c fan, he will NEVER replace Barry. And it does sum up poor management not just from the manager in not having someone to replace him, hes not that good, but from the club, we have had Barry for about 10 years and have NEVER had anyone who can take his place, thats very poor. He wasnt fit last year and we still couldnt get a replacement, and i dont buy this, its a different injury, rubbish, this is Barrys fault for being selfish and greedy last year when he thought he was going to lift 4 trophies! Buy Kevin Nolan and i bet Barry wont get back in the team.

#4 hes been playing like he is finished for a wee while now, not been at his best, its funny how he NEEDS good players round about him to be able to play, surely the best players rise above their team mates to be leaders and to show everyone they are indeed the best players in the team,(E.G. Boruc, McGeady, Nakamura- it makes me sick but its true!) Barry just doesnt do that.Rangers have had a severe lack of quality in all areas of the team now for years n years, i thought Walter was here to FIX us, he has signed 1 or 2 crackers but probably more USELESS players. If i was sick before i am even more sick now apparantly ALL our income from last year is gone and we now cant afford Davis????Whats that all about, i only hope for Walters sake he is keeping the money for Gattuso and Ballack or else our wee SPL squad will win nothing AGAIN.

#9 lol i know, my honesty is not liked by my fellow blue noses, well useless signings, lets start at the back, neil alexander is no able deputy, not a rangers no.1 or 13, Broadfoot cant take shys although i would keep him, dailly is the luckiest player in the world, 2.25m on mcculloch was a waste of money,he doesnt have enough skill to play in midfield,2.5m on beasley who hasnt kicked a ball yet and is too fragile for Scotland, his pace isnt enough, new contract for Burke, he doesnt play and doesnt have the heart for Rangers, Gow, is he at Ibrox? Cousin 1.5m waste of money, doesnt score goals more interested in himself, Darcheville, granted he was free not a goalscorer.Faye loan, who is he?, new contract for Adam, are you joking? Now he is saying we have no money left, who is kidding who? Mistakes were losing league and not signing Hartley, Robson,Riordan and Brown. Im happy with 3 new forwards, i think they will be good, but we need rid of the ones named above. His good sigings are Weir for 1 year,Cuellar, Naismith, Whittaker, Tommo and maybe keeping Boyd. Geo i could also go through your team, but im not that interested.

ferguson plays for ages with injections due to his ankle problem which will need an operation..keeps playing till the end of the season and is clearly struggling..magically no operation is needed ..7 weeks later ferguson needs an operation on his ankle..but its not connected to the original problem..d'oh..sadly walter knows the media monkeys wont give hiom too hard a time so he can spout any nonscence..but do rangers fans believe him ??
