Published Date: 15 February 2007
NEW monthly community newspaper for Leith and Portobello has been launched by the publishers of the Evening News.
The Leith and Portobello Gazette is available free in shops and community buildings such as GP surgeries, as well as being delivered door to door.

The new paper is a revival of the historic Leith Gazette and features a roundup of local news, as well as local opinion and events.

Among the contributors are local MP Mark Lazarowicz, who will be providing a regular column, folk musician Andy Chung and Leith FM's Norrie Stewart.

The Leith and Portobello Gazette is to be followed by other new community newspapers, including a separate Gazette for Stockbridge and the New Town which will follow in late March.

It comes after the introduction of the first Gazette title last month, which covers Bruntsfield, Morningside and Merchiston.

Gazette series editor Gail Milne said: "The Leith Gazette has proved popular with the community already. There has been a flood of readers calling from Leith and Portobello with their news."

Sorry Paul - much as you respect the much vaunted JG, I'm afraid John Gibson's senility means that even the punters of Leith should be spared such torture.............!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could hi publishers not put him out to grass in a humane way instead fo setting him up to make a fool of himself every week - I do believe he still believes his opinion counts.............!!!!!!

I sincerely hope these new papers have nothing to do with Scotsman Publications!
