THE OFFICIAL unveiling of a memorial statue of the US equivalent of Greyfriars Bobby, San Diego's most famous dog, Bum, is to occur later this month.
A parade of hundreds of dogs will lead the way to the site of the statue, in West Princes Street Gardens, on July 19.

Members of the Skye Terrier Association, who will be wearing period dress, will lead the parade, and families have been invited to bring their pet dogs along to join in the fun.

There will be a short service in St Cuthbert's Church Hall at 12 noon, before the parade moves off to West Princes Street Gardens.

The memorial to Bum was commissioned by the Edinburgh-San Diego Twinning Association, after a statue of Greyfriars Bobby was donated to the American city several years ago. Organiser John Wilson said he was delighted the plans were finally in place.

May I suggest that Bum should be affectionately nicknamed Greyfriars Botty?

Wouldn't it be nice to put a memorial to Bum on Arthurs Seat?

Greyfriars Bobby is, of course, appropriate rhyming slang. Think I'll celebrate with a bag of Skitters.

A Bum in Princes St Gardens?

Nothing new there then.
