Salmond has big footprint

ALEX Salmond's carbon footprint is more than six times that of the average Scot, Lothians Labour MSP George Foulkes has claimed.
He challenged environment secretary Richard Lochhead over ministers setting an example in cutting emissions.

Mr Lochhead said the First Minister was supporting environmental targets in Scotland's first ever Climate Change Bill.

George Foulkes is even larger than Alex Salond.

Foulkes is a complete waste of taxpayers money with these stupid questions.

What about Lord Foulkes who makes weekly plane journeys up and down to London at taxpayers expense.

And he has been criticised after he claimed nearly £45,000 in overnight expenses to stay in a property he inherited from his late mother.
George Foulkes, who is also an MSP, billed the public to stay in a London flat registered as his company's address.
His claims were made over a two-year period in which he bought almost £600,000 of property without a mortgage and made £400,000 on another home. His London abode also appears to be the business address for his work as a director and political consultant with Carrick Court Associates, which makes £50,000 per year.

Foulkes is absolutely right.

The First Minister is constantly telling us how we need to change in order to meet our environmental targets, but he never makes any effort himself.

Being the First Minister must be demanding, but so is being a working mother holding down a job and needing to get around.

Plenty of other politicians use public transport, so he should too. He's not the only person in Scotland to have responsibilities and 'needs'.

Agree with you. Someone somewhere ought to stop this waste of public money by George Foulkes. I wonder what it costs us for each of his 'enquiries' to be answered.

Of course, George travels first class down to London. None of the cattle class for oor George.

Look in the mirror George, you're in as much need of losing a bit of weigh as Alex Salmond.

George Foulkes must know that Alex Salmond lives in a rural house many miles from the nearest Railway Station.

This is fact of life for everyone living in the countryside and bus services are very infrequent.

It is pretty unrealistic for people to expect our political leaders who generally put in much longer hours of work than those who only work 9 to 5 not to use private cars / taxis in order to continue reading
briefing papers while travelling.

I have no problem with any First Minister or Prime Minister using what they think is the most convenient method of travel.

It doesn't excuse the continual nonsense from George Foulkes. Has anyone asked how much of taxpayers money he has wasted with such questions in order to score school boy debating points.

You should appreciate that the current First Minister has a carbon footprint which is a lot less that the previous incumbant
But Lord George Foulkes would want a fact like that to get in the way of a story, especially as Lord George Foulkes commutes on a regular basis to the House of Lords, so he can claim his attendance money from there as well as Holyrood
Fact is George Foulkes is in it for himself, he couldnt give a monkey's about the Scottish people or the environment

They are probably as bad as each other. While we are all worrying about carbon footprints from adiposity challenged politicians there is an international conferenece into climate change going on in Copenhagen. Guess how may delegates are there, 20, 30, 100 nothing like it, try 8000 [yes eight thousand]. I'm sure they all got there on foot, bicycle and windsurfer I cannot imagine any of these worthies would have the brass neck to go by plane.

Who cares!

This newspaper should take a leaf out of the Herald and Evening Times book. Sack the lot of them and take on journalists who only have something newsworthy to write.

Pathetic.
