ID protesters to face court

CAMPAIGNERS arrested during a protest against ID cards at the Carlton Highland Hotel will appear in court later this month.
The "No2ID Nine" – which includes three doctors and one PhD student – were charged with breach of the peace offences following an incident at a Home Office meeting on ID cards at the hotel on Monday.

The protesters – members of the Edinburgh branch of No2ID – are set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on July 24.

Among those herded into police vans was a four-year-old, who was taken away with his mother.

They deserve all the support they can get from the public. Time the police arrested the 13-17 year olds who are drunk and disorderly in our streets instead of their 'ticking off' attitude.

they should be arresting mps for their abuse of the expense system at westminster,the like of eric joyce mp for falkirk west who has topped the expenses league before and it is no wonder
he lives in south croydon london not falkirk,his wife is a school teacher in south croydon his family home is in south croydon his kids go to school in south croydon,and he voted to keep the expenses system as it is open to abuse by them all,and he voted for the introduction of id cards

Surely the best ever piece of spin by authoritarians is the phrase: "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about"

I see people saying this all the time in Scotland. It is beyond stupid.

Everyone has things to hide, otherwise we would all leave our bedroom curtains open at night, and pin our salary packets to the outside of our houses. Heavens, some people don't even like people to know what they have on their Ipod.

In the 1920's, jews, the disabled and homosexuals in Germany had nothing to hide, and nothing to fear. Twenty years later, they were being gassed.

The reality is, these 9 people should be set free, they stood up for nothing more than freedom. I do hope our Scottish justiciary still have people who understand the concept of civil liberties.

No matter how much power a police force has, it will ALWAYS want more, and these ID cards are the first step in a totalitarian society.

Imagine, in the future, a very successful independence movement starts in Scotland, and we know from past history the English Government use illegal means to suppress such trends. Imagine then, the leader of said independence movement, suddenly it is leaked to the press, that twnety years ago he looked at some pron on the internet - result movement destroyed.

These kinds of ID records are open to real abuse, with the result that democracy can be usurped at a mouse click. If you object, 'data' will be added to your file, 'showing you had done bad things in the past.

These 9 protesters deserve all the support they can get. The police in this country operate by the CONSENT of the population. Maybe the chief constable of Lothian and Borders police needs to remember that. But then again, L&B police force, are the ones who tried to 'sully' the name of Tommy Sheridans wife, with trumped up charges (together with press leaks - how convenient) regarding whisky miniatures.

Well that's typical of the Police too busy waisting time instead of dealing with knife crime they are more interested in protesters being locked up for speaking out in what they believe in. This government is turning into a load of nazi's hell bent on power at any cost, all they are concerned about is their stupid Id Card scheme and National database and to treat us all like criminals and who pays for it all? The taxpayer who else. What have they done about this knife crime thats sweeping the country? Handed out a bunch of stupid leaflets how pathetic is that? The Labour party will lose in the end by losing votes, power to the people.
