PUPILS at a Lothians school are taking part in an innovative project to teach local Polish people to speak English.
Youngsters at St David's High School, Dalkeith, have joined forces with Newbattle Abbey College to develop an online language course for recent arrivals.

Using a Scottish Funding Council grant, the internet-based course will cater for the parents of the school's Polish pupils.

Those taking the course will initially be coached in the use of IT by senior pupils at the school, while the pupils will act as translators for their families and other members of the Polish community.

Project coordinator at Newbattle Abbey College, Rae McGhee, said: "With the growing number of Polish people coming to live and work in the community, this project is a great way to help them learn English and integrate into the community, while also allowing young people to develop their coaching skills."

Fine, as long as ALL of the expenses of such a scheme comes from the Polish community. Most of them already speak English as it is taught through most of Europe.

Maybe we need Polish lessons sponsored by the Polish community so we can understand what half of Edinburgh is saying?

I have no problems with the people, but I have major problems with this country committing suicide by allowing immigrants (of all forms) in such huge numbers. The UK is dying because of all the immigrants.

Get a JOB. The POLISH PEOPLE WILL WORK. (Not lay around)

Only the Polish people can work since they have helped push the hourly rate way down. If I get a job I can probably barely cover my rent as the rents have gone up, due to immigrants. My rent and Council tax is currently £1100/$2300 per MONTH due to the local Council and they housing agents. How hard does someone need to work to cover that cost when being paid £6/$13 an hour?
