RISING star Craig Mitchell has been recruited by ambitious Edinburgh Capitals from Fife Flyers – reversing a recent trend.
The young British defender spent last season with the Kirkcaldy ice hockey club and also represented Team Great Britain at the World under-18 Championships in Estonia.
Craig now joins his brother in the Elite League as Lee has just signed for Hul
l Stingrays.
Doug Christiansen, Capitals' director of coaching, said: "Craig is a developing hockey player. I saw him play against our Scottish Premier League team and I was very impressed.
"For a player as young as he is, he stood out in that game. I wanted to bring him in with our talented core of young players to develop them all as a group.
"Craig skates well and has a big frame that he is going to grow into. He is very keen to become a good defender in our league. I know he is excited to take the next step in his career."
Recently players including Steven Lynch, Daniel McIntyre, Iain Beattie, Lewis Glasgow and Blair Daly have all left Capitals to join Flyers.
And Craig said: "I'm looking forward to challenging myself at Elite League level.
"I hope to learn a lot this year and help in every way I can bring success to Edinburgh. I see this as a huge opportunity in my career and can't wait to get under way."
