DOUG CHRISTIANSEN today predicted that Michel Robinson will turn out to be the best goaltender in ice hockey's Elite League.
The 6ft 1in French/Canadian stopper awaits his visa before jetting into Scotland but Christiansen, Edinburgh Capitals' playcaller, said: "He's the business."
The pair played together for a short spell in Italy but Robinson – who celebrates his 26t
h birthday today – missed a large chunk of last season through injury.
Montreal-born Robinson will be sponsored by The Castle Arms pub in Edinburgh, and Christiansen said: "He could be the best goalkeeper in the Elite League."
Capitals were forced to dip into the market when No.1 stopper, J F Perras, was snapped up by Coventry Blaze who won the league title last season.
Christiansen is full of praise for last season's guardian but said: "Our goalie from last season, J F Perras, was phenomenal, but I predict that Robinson will be as good, if not better, than J F.
"A goalkeeper is pivotal to the team and Robinson has played championship hockey for some of his previous clubs. He's an All-Star pick and fans will notice a difference between him and other goalies in that he will act as a third defenceman.
"The team has been set up to be defensive and he'll a big guy at 6ft 1in. He's also a feisty kind of guy but that's because he cares.
"I played with him at Ritten in Italy and I know that people will love the way he plays. I also know that he'll love Edinburgh.
"He may not be as flashy a player as Colin Hemingway but we're looking to Michel to be a leader on this team."
