Let the SNP stand and fall, you say, and posts on the council's taxi bill, the parliament's heating bill, and 4x4s
Many of you were moved to respond to the news that the BNP is putting a candidate up in the Granton council by-election. There were mixed views on banning the party, though...

There is no way I agree with their policies, but it's
a free country (so we're told), so sadly they have as much right as any other political party to stand
elayne

If you don't agree with or like the BNP – don't vote for 'em. Unfortunately in a democracy they have a right to stand for election.
Mallory

Can the government not legislate against these far-right parties? They should be completely banned from politics.
mystic

Hopefully they will get little or no votes, which should signal to them that they are neither welcome or wanted in Scotland!
Hector the Red

Can't see what all the fuss is about. If you don't like the BNP then don't vote for them, but nobody has any right to say who will stand at an election and who other people can or can't vote for.
Ronaldo Stuffed Everyone

They're barking mad and I hope the people of Granton ignore them.
Artemis

What's their position on the trams? That could be a winning/losing stance!
Old Cartha Boy,

And how would the BNP be on taxi fares? And would they really paint all the black cabs white? Who knows. But you had something to say about councillors and taxi fares.

They all get a bus pass, paid for by us. Sign them all up to the bike to work scheme and tell them to pay for their own taxis in future.
Artemis

Soon be able to go anywhere they like at the speed of light on a tram for 10 pence.
Daft Old Git

Councillors are only supposed to use taxis when no other public transport is "reasonably available." And what happens if they don't follow this rule/guideline? Let me guess ... nothing!
Hmm?,

But perhaps you're all being a bit petty. Brian Hill thinks so.

It's ridiculous to expect hard-working councillors to jet around the city on 'roller skates'. I've even read complaints about the First Minister using the official car to get up down to Holyrood from Bute House. What do we expect, the FM waiting at the bus stop?
Brian Hill

And if it's not taxi fares, it's heating. MSPs have been complaining it's too cold at Holyrood.

Never mind about chill committee rooms, there are thousands of pensioners who are freezing in their homes and they are more important than a few brain dead members of the Scottish Parliament
daveserviceman

Most of them are full of hot air so what's the problem
Old Town

Yes, the headline writer missed that one. But still on the subject of energy ... the plan to charge 4x4 gas guzzlers more to park did not meet with universal approval.

"It's a win-win idea that " Tell that to the guy who owns a 4x4, which last time I checked was allowed in this country. Any car, big or large, does not create pollution when parked!
allknowing

Are these large cars really a problem in the city? Has the council actually sat down and calculated the improvement that it will bring? I suspect that the final decision will be based on misinformation and not hard facts.
