Reaffirming your feelings on the trams, some views of the usefulness of journey time signs, and shopping at The Elements.
IT'S not the first time, it won't be the last. Edinburgh's tram line has inspired (if we use the word loosely) the most online comments. Our story about deals being sealed for vehicles and other infrastructure sparked the latest round of posts for an
d against.

That's an increase of £14 million over roughly 14 days, or £1 million per day. On that basis, by 2011 that could easily add another £900 million + to the total cost.

Can't wait to see these beautiful pieces of engineering gliding through the City. I will make a point of coming over just to see them.

Fantastic news. Anything that further winds up the moaning anti-tram whingers here just HAS to be great value for money. Listening to them whine makes life such a joy.

Edinburgh council tried to close 22 schools because of a shortfall in the council budget of £10m. This shower of wasters have spent an extra £14m on accessories for their jumped up train set and they are celebrating.
vote them out

Wait a few years and you can come and see them in an East Lothian museum, next to that other great white elephant of transport engineering – Concorde.
Steven P, edinburgh

Personally I like the idea of a tram in principle. I just think that perhaps the money could have been better spent on schools and other services just now.

There were many more posts, but we'll continue the journey by road. It seems you had little time for signs that helpfully inform you of journey time to destinations.

I've seen these signs on the M8 in Glasgow and never seen the point of them. What are you supposed to do with the information? By the time you see them you're already en route, so it's too late to set off earlier or use a different mode of transport.
Graham P, Edinburgh

And full marks to the one they've erected in Musselburgh just before entering into Edinburgh. They've put the mounting post right in the middle of the pavement so that wheelchair users can't get past.
Grumpy

They would be better spending the money on fixing the roads before they start on any ideas like this!

You can take the road to Livingston later this year and you'll find some familiar faces at the new, extended shopping mall.

Ah more shops! That's what we need. The list of retailers is the same retailers that turn up in every other mega shopping centre all over the UK. How people can enjoy shopping is beyond me. I personally hate going to these places. Thank God for online shopping.
Smasher

And some of you were quick to gloat . . .

This is how shopping should be. Lots of shops, lots of places to eat, and easy parking. Plus you don't get wet when it rains! Princes Street – not a patch on out-of-town shopping centres! Only good for the poor.
allknowing

. . . and no bloody traffic wardens. Edinburgh take note!
