NORTH KOREA has displayed a newly-developed ballistic missile capable of reaching the US territory of Guam during a massive military parade.
The parade in Pyongyang featured three new models, including the medium-range missile that can travel 1500-2500 miles. A report cited an unidentified South Korean official familiar with an analysis of US satellite images.

"All three [new] models are ground-to-ground missiles," the official said. "Of them, the medium-range ballistic missile has Guam in its range."

North Korea's missile development has been a constant concern, along with its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

The hard-line regime test-fired a series of missiles in July last year, including its latest long-range model, known abroad as the Taepodong-2, which experts believe could reach parts of the US. The North rattled the world again in October by conducting its first-ever test of a nuclear device. However, experts believe it does not have a bomb design advanced enough to be placed on a missile.

The Pyongyang parade marked the 75th anniversary of the country's military, which dates back to resistance movements against Japan's occupation.

1. I am starting to like you mate!! Just the way you word your comments, total classic.
Nah, North Korea govornment is quite crazy (at least totilitarian military folk). Military is the way of life in NK.
But I believe that NK is more of a threat than Iran.

US are targeting Iran because it is militarily weaker than NK. Oh and it has oil.. and the iranian oil bourse.. and it questions US global dominance like so many other countries (Cuba etc etc).. and the joint trading deals in the east outwith US control.. I think the nuclear program comes bottom of the list.

If Iran is developing a program (and they would be crazy not to) it IS in response to US and Israeli threats. If you were a country like iran, what would be a realistic detterent?

Anti US spin merchant?! Nah, more of a realist mate. I try not to get caught in all this media rhetoric and try to figure things out for my own. Base things on reality and facts.

WMDs?

Why hasn't the USA invaded North Korea?

Because that target can shoot back, that's why - not a soft option like Iraq.

"If you were a country like iran, what would be a realistic detterent?"

Excellent question. Let me so bold as to suggest that a very effective and realistic deterrent would be for Iran to concentrate on nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, stop its nuclear weapons programme, stop supporting terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah and stop fermenting shia death squads in Iraq.

Ooooops. I forgot. It was meant to be realistic. Iran wont stop.

7. US Marine Corps

The distance from North Korea to Guam is about the same as from Iraq to the UK. Guam and the UK are both aircraft carriers.

Welcome to the world! Going around kicking a** is sure to make things much more interesting when the a** kicks you!
