East Lothian mum slams 'mindless idiots' who dropped rock onto her car from A1 bridge
A nurse and mum-of-two from Port Seton narrowly avoided a fatal crash after teenagers launched a boulder from a bridge onto her car.
Cara Hogg was traveling along the busy A1 when the two black-clad youngsters dropped the large rock onto her vehicle as she passed under the pedestrian bridge at around 7.15pm on Saturday.
Cara was forced to swerve her Kia Sportage into the outside lane to avoid the stone smashing onto her windscreen as she headed to her home in Port Seton, East Lothian.
The rock fortunately just missed striking the windscreen due to the nurse’s quick thinking and instead collided with the driver’s side front panel resulting in slight damage.
The mum-of-two has now slammed the “mindless idiots” who targeted her vehicle and issued a warning to other motorists who use the road.
Cara, 34, said: “I was heading home from a 12 hour shift on placement as a student nurse and was driving on the A1 when I spotted the two guys dressed in black standing on the bridge.

“It all happened so quickly but as I got near the bridge I luckily looked up and saw the boulder being thrown down on top of my car.
“I managed to swerve into the fast lane and there was a huge bang as the rock struck the side of my car.
“Fortunately nothing was overtaking me in the outside lane at the time or there could have been a huge crash.
I was lucky my two kids were not in the car. This could have cost me my life but also caused a crash endangering others
“I pulled over on the hard shoulder to check my car and when I looked back at the bridge they had gone.
“I was shaking with anger at the time and most likely they were teenagers as I don’t believe adults would have done such a thing.
“I was lucky my two kids were not in the car. This could have cost me my life but also caused a crash endangering others.
“I’m not sure if the police can do anything to identify them but motorists who use the road have to be aware this has happened as next time it could result in a fatality.”
The mindless attack on Cara took place as she drove under the pedestrian bridge between the slip road at Wallyford and before the Tranent turn off on the A1.
After arriving home the student nurse reported the attack to the police and took to social media to warn motorists and appeal for anyone in the area at the time with dashcam footage.
Her Facebook post was met with shock by locals who have labelled the teenagers as “a disgrace” and “a danger” to drivers in the area.
One pal said: “So glad you are okay and the kids weren’t in the car. Absolutely terrifying.”
A second posted: “That is so scary and shocking behaviour. Glad you are ok and I hope they are caught.”
And a third added: “What planet are these kids on, even when we were younger we would never do something like this.
“Hopefully they catch the kids in question - could literally have been fatal.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.30pm on Saturday, 28 March, 2026, police received a report of items being thrown from a bridge between the Wallyford and Tranent slip roads.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
