A NEW library is to form part of a Muslim education centre's plans to expand.
The Muslim Educational and Cultural Centre on Portobello's Fishwives Causeway wants to demolish its existing workshop and replace it with a newly extended library, meeting rooms and a caretakers flat.

The expansion will see the space available to the centre expand from the existing 200 square metres to 490 sq m.

Portobello-based architects Iain Abbot have drawn up the plans.

The application for the development has been lodged with the council and a decision is expected in the next two months.

The property was previously a builders' yard and a motor repair shop until the Muslim group took over in 2000.
