Village sees crime rate fall

THE number of crimes committed in a Midlothian village fell to less than one a day, according to the latest police figures.
Pc Blair Watson told a recent meeting of Newtongrange Community Council that a total of 25 crimes had been carried out July, with nine solved – a rate of 36 per cent.
Among the crimes during July were a series of raids on garden sheds and garages.
Pc Watson said that Friday evenings were the busiest time of the week for officers, with groups of local and visiting youths gathering in the village.
