SHAWFAIR Park in Midlothian has been listed as one of three possible locations in the running for the relocation of the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
Two existing buildings in West Edinburgh have also been shortlisted, with a decision expected very shortly on the final location.

The current SQA premises, at Ironmills Road, Dalkeith, have outlived their purpose, and Midlothian Council has been lobbying to keep the body in its area, to protect around 220 jobs.

Midlothian Council, Rhona Brankin MSP, David Hamilton MP, Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce and Midlothian Trade Union Council have all backed the Shawfair site as the preferred location.

Should it be chosen to house the SQA and get planning permission from Midlothian Council, it is intended the new purpose-built building will be available for location by the end of 2010.

Sandy Smith, development director for Buccleuch Property, which owns the Shawfair site, said: "We are delighted that Shawfair has made the shortlist."
