"People are breaking the law and there's no one here to stop them."

Perhaps they are not breaking the law. subjecting a street to a no-entry restriction requires a traffic order, which must be advertised and any objections heard. Unless that process has been successfully completed, then the law does not exist yet for people to break. Putting up temporary "no-entry" signs is not enough.

I am confused as to why anyone would want to prevent taxis entering a taxi rank though. Seems mad to me.

"People are coming through it at high speeds"...you mean taxi drivers are coming through it at high speeds, which is nothing really to become alarmed about, as taxi drivers usually travel at high speeds &, like pedal cyclists, are experts at ignoring road traffic signs with scant regard for public safety.

Those law-flouting cabbies are a menace!

There is CCTV covering this rank, so they should be easy to identify.

Take their plates away!

This story was taken from the Dalkeith Advertiser. There has been no rogue taxi drivers cutting through the taxi rank. This story does not make any sense! This is a editing error. Instead of "rogue taxi drivers" this should have read motorists. I did not speak to the Evening News or The Scotsman. I hope this explains very this confusing story. Dear oh Dear - if #4 is who he says - and he should know - looks like one of the Evening Chip-Wrapper's Intrepid Newshounds has been caught with his/her trousers down! What action does the Editor intend to take to restore this Mighty Organ's Integrity?? None, and None - OK.
And #1 is absolutely right - is this yet another example of Midlotion Cooncil making up their interpretation of the Road Traffic Regulation Act and TSRGD as they go along?

If this is the rank at the back of the Black Bull, then 'high speed' is a load of nonsense.
No 6 - you make a valid point about Midlothian Council and their scant compliance with road signs and markings. There are a growing number of 'disabled' parking spaces appearing in many areas, including trunk roads, yet no signs, or, presumably, legislation to support them - so what are they, just some white paint dumped on the road to allow councillors to go back to constituents and say 'see what I have done for you'.
