A STUDENT village with shops and more than 800 homes could have been built at Meadowbank if the original plans to sell all of the site were pursued, it was revealed today.
The proposals were in documents which the city council published in response to a Freedom of Information request by campaigners.
The confidential marketing reports compiled over the past four years show one firm thought the council could rake in £47 million from a sale of the whole of the Meadowbank Stadium site. The reports were put together when the council's intention was to build a purpose-built facility at Sighthill.
Save Meadowbank spokesman Kevin Connor said: "These documents show Edinburgh Council had been determined to sell Meadowbank quickly with no mention whatsoever of any public consultation."
