A UNIVERSITY lecturer today criticised the city council for giving Meadowbank campaigners the "cold shoulder".
Dr Dimitris Theodossopoulos, a lecturer in architectural technology at Edinburgh University, said he wrote to council leader Jenny Dawe with his reasons why Meadowbank Stadium should be saved from the wrecking ball.

The venue is set to be demolished and replaced with a smaller £25 million arena, which involves selling off 8.5 acres of land at the west of the site for housing.

Dr Theodossopoulos said: "Council officials and elected representatives should be ashamed of the way they have acted. They claim to be willing to engage in dialogue but instead take it upon themselves to publish reports and make recommendations without hearing all the evidence.

"What is lacking is a vision from the council about the future of sports training in the city. It is sad to see Edinburgh Council reduce facilities when there is a demand from the government and the community for improved health education."

remember every school flogging their sports fields off for a couple of thousand pounds under thatcher; wonder what'll be left of Edinburgh after Dawe and co have finished?

Dawe and many of her fellow councillors look like they've never exercised much apart from arm stretches to grab the pie and cake freebies.
