Campaigners set to boycott stadium talks
CAMPAIGNERS opposed to the demolition of Meadowbank Stadium have refused to take part in a council workshop on the future of the site.
Last week, councillors voted to bulldoze the centre and sell off a third of the land for housing. A new complex will be built on the remainder of the site for around £25 million.
Over the next few months, decisions will be made on what facilities to incorporate at the centre, with officials recommending a minimum of sports halls, changing facilities, a gym and fitness studio, indoor athletics and a 5000-seat stadium.
But Save Meadowbank spokesman Kevin Connor said: "We have already taken part in two series of council workshops. Officials listened to what we had to say, nodded politely and then just went ahead with their own ideas anyway."
