LIVINGSTON director Maurice Smith today admitted the club could be sold to an Italian consortium of agents and lawyers this week.
Smith and chairman Pearse Flynn renewed negotiations with the consortium following the collapse of the deal with Irish investor Anthony McMullen.
Flynn is prepared to sell his controlling stake in the club but it is not yet clear what sort of dea
l the Italians want to strike.
Smith said: "We have had talks and discussed all options including selling the club, and we are waiting to see what their proposal might be.
"They are certainly interested in coming to Scotland and are looking to buy a club. We have been looking at ways of providing new investment for Livingston."
It is understood that the consortium, led by lawyer Angelo Massone, would use the club as a showcase for new talent from Italy, Europe and also Scotland.
Massone's business partner is Glasgow-based agent Tommaso Angelini, who brokered Shunsuke Nakamura's move to Celtic from Reggina.
The Italians made an initial move in March when it became clear that Flynn was serious in his bid for new investment and also prepared to sell.
Smith added: "We have been actively looking to build the club and find new investment. But income is very low in the First Division."
