LIVINGSTON striker Leigh Griffiths today admitted it was so cold at Almondvale on Saturday that he had to risk being the subject of the dressing-room jokes by putting on tights prior to his introduction at half-time against Morton.
However, as well as donning gloves and bright blue boots, the teenage ace helped fire up the Lions to their first win in three games, helping to provide on-loan Hearts striker Calum Elliot with the winner.
Griffiths rightly won the sponsor's man-of-the-match award following his electrifying performance and might have scored two goals himself but for a terrific save from Morton keeper Keith Cuthbert and some desperate defending. The 18-year-old, who is just back after a knee injury, said: "We really needed this win because we did not want to lose four on the trot.
"I had to run back in to put on tights. They help to keep the muscles compacted and stop me getting cramp."
Griffiths teamed up with Murray Davidson to set up Elliot for his seventh goal in six league games, an exquisite curling shot form 20 yards, which Cuthbert could do little about.
And Elliot re-iterated his desire to join Livingston full time. "I am just enjoying playing first-team football again. I don't know if I shall get that chance if I go back to Hearts."
