Kennedy: It's highly unlikely I'll lead again

THE Lib Dem leadership race began in earnest today, with Charles Kennedy declaring it "highly unlikely" he would stand and acting leader Vince Cable ruling himself out altogether.
Former leader Mr Kennedy said: "I think it's highly unlikely, to be honest. You should never say never in politics, but as close to never as you can get."

Mr Cable, 64, said today that he had come to the conclusion that an older candidate was not electable because of the "irrational prejudice" shown towards Sir Menzies Campbell over his age.

The contest was sparked by Sir Menzies' shock resignation on Monday and Environment spokesman Chris Huhne was expected to make a statement throwing his hat into the ring today.

He is regarded as one of the strongest candidates to replace Sir Menzies, along with home affairs spokesman Nick Clegg.

... the LibDems seem to have a problem "finding themselves". One thing for sure is that they are not the "nice party".

Nor are they a party with plans, organisation or even policies - they seem to drift along, hanging on the coat-tails of Labour, which was a bad mistake, even before Labour's demise.

You might have added Winston Churchill to that list. Campbell ousted Kennedy because he wanted the job. Now seen as an abject failure he has been forced out by a bunch non of whom have anything near Kennedy's ability.

Charles K was good, bring him back. Even when he was supposed to be a his worst re. alcohol he still seemed more effective than Ming was - Ming faltered at PMQs and didn't grow into the job.

Is this paper going to expend it's energy speculating forever as to who will take over the Liberal party?
Personally I could'nt give a stuff who they elect,it will make little difference in Scotland.
I absolutely expect them to vanish without trace at the next election.
