United owner's son-in-law killed in crash

A MOTORCYCLIST who died following an accident on the outskirts of the Capital at the weekend was the son-in-law of Dundee United chairman Eddie Thompson.

Ken Mitchell, 38, of Murrayfield, died after losing control of his Harley Davidson on a bend on the A90 near Dalmeny on Sunday.

His wife Justine, 38, an Edinburgh lawyer and property developer, is believed to have been driving their car in front of him and witnessed the accident.

She has been running the football club for her father, who was diagnosed with cancer, since January.

The couple, who have a one-year-old son, were married in 2004. Mr Mitchell ran an executive recruitment agency.

Steven Thompson, Mr Mitchell's brother-in-law, said the family had been left "devastated" by the loss of a "much-loved husband and father".

He added: "He was their whole life and had so much to live for, and so much left to give.

"We ask that the family are left alone to grieve in private at this time."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which caused the closure of the road for several hours.
