MOTORISTS have endured more traffic hold-ups around Princes Street as the latest attempt to ease tramwork congestion gets underway.
A new system of traffic light phasing was introduced on Sunday in the hope of easing the overload caused by work to move utilities on Princes Street between Frederick Street and Hanover Street.

The city centre saw traffic gridlock when the stretch of road was originally completely closed on October 2.

To ease the pressure, one lane of traffic was reopened to buses travelling westbound, and it was hoped that the new rephasing of traffic lights would improve the situation further.

However, there were further tailbacks yesterday morning.

A spokesman for tram company TIE said: "TIE was able to react extremely quickly to take action and ease the situation.

"This included the switching off of traffic lights on the junction of Frederick Street and George Street. In the meantime, all other diversions remain in place."

He added: "TIE continues to thank travellers for their patience."

Just keep going with all these c**k ups and they will drive all the traffic from the city centre. They will then find all the businesses suffering and moving away from the city centre then we will have no reason to take the tram to Princes Street.

The worst one yet for new traffic controls is in George Street out side the Dome. You have without a break a taxi rank with a bus stop right next to it then zebra crossing followed by another taxi rank.
However allowed that crossing to be located there needs to be sacked.
The people using the crossing are hidden from view by buses or taxis.
