Salmond to unveil new economy plan

FIRST Minister Alex Salmond will tonight outline new measures to address challenges faced by the Scottish economy.
He is due to detail the initiatives when he delivers the Donald Dewar lecture at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in Charlotte Square Gardens.

The speech is likely to cover housing issues and the wider economy.

Opposition MSPs attempted to pre-empt the speech by calling on the SNP leader to tackle job losses in the construction industry and shortages of affordable housing.

Tavish Scott, leadership candidate of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, said Mr Salmond was "dithering" while house builders faced increased strain. And Labour said housing associations were being denied adequate funds to address shortages.

Earlier today, Mr Salmond took his Cabinet colleagues on the road again with the latest of a series of meetings around Scotland. The Cabinet was due to meet at the Atholl Palace hotel in Pitlochry ahead of a question and answer session in Pitlochry Town Hall.

Easy one, this: Announce some kind of public spending quick-fix. Don't invoke Scottish tax raising powers to pay for it. Leave the UK Government to cover the deficit. Carp on about North Sea oil if anyone complains. Job done.

Developers and tradesmen have been charging way over the odds for years - time they came back down to earth!

#1 why not carp on about the £16 billion going to the London Cross Rail + the £36 billion to be allocated 2010 to 2017 for the London Transport. makes the Edinburgh Tram look like a Hornby train set. how is the London toys paid for? General UK taxation i.e. us as well as the English regions outwith London and the SE.
why the construction industry? well having given (not lent)the Northern Rock BS billions of tax pounds why not. many of the pension funds that a great number of the retired have investments in could do with a bit of the money back that Gordon has ripped out of them over the last 10 years.
who to replace Salmond? "Disney" Kerr, Dull Grey, Cathy the loser or Captain Mannering of the Lib Dems. choose your pick.
if he did resign how would we be better off Darren? The Chuckle Brothers or the wicked witch of the West? you are clearly not the sharpest tool in the box. you have to be told what to think by the politicians and the others that control the limited thought processes you obviously have. ah well back to work.

I'm surprised that no-one has suggested this already;
1) Mr Brown will shortly resign, having failed to overcome enemies at Westminster.
2) With one bound he was free! A new start beckons as
MSP and leader of the Labour group in Holyrood.
