LABOUR and Solidarity will today reveal their candidates to stand at the Glasgow East by-election.
Solidarity chose their candidate last night but decided to wait until today to announce their choice.

Controversial politician and former Scottish Socialist Party leader Tommy Sheridan was on the short-list.

The July 24 by-election was triggered by long-serving Labour MP David Marshall's resignation on health grounds.

Labour – which enjoyed a majority of 13,507 in the 2005 General Election – will announce its candidate later today.

The SNP would need a 21.9 per cent swing to snatch the seat from its rivals.

Last night the SNP selected councillor John Mason as its candidate.

Mr Mason is leader of the SNP group on Glasgow Council and represents the Baillieston ward within the constituency of Glasgow East.

He has represented the East End of Glasgow for 10 years since winning a council by-election in 1998.

Execept Labour, whose candidate is unlikely to go to Westminster anyway.

The Labour candidate declined as his partner did no want to go to Westminster. The rest just employ their partners and relatives anyway, which caused the by election in the first lace.
