CAMPAIGNERS today challenged the Scottish Parliament to change the law after a House of Lords judgement removed the right to compensation for asbestos victims.
Union leaders and lawyers attacked the decision to end claims for pleural plaques, usually caused by exposure to asbestos.

The decision removes an established right to compensation which had existed for 20 years and will lead to "massive savings" for insurance firms, said unions.

Harry McLuskey, secretary of Clydeside Action on Asbestos, said: "The judgement is a major set back. The judgement has gone against the workers who have to live with the appalling fear that their condition could develop into an incurable cancer. But we won't take this lying down."

Glasgow Labour MSP Bill Butler said: "Labour would definitely support legislation. I hope the new administration and other parties would also give their support."

Sounds about right for the grasping insurance companies with their board members sitting in the Lords.
Time to leave all that crap behind and become independent. Then at least we might be able to have some real social justice

This ruling is a disgrace. The Scottish Parliament should legislate to ensure the workers are compensated. The arguments of insurance companies and the employers on plaques is similar to the previous arguments of Big Tobacco on cancer correlation with smoking,
