Family of heart op Nathan in £800 'thank-you' to charity

THE family of a baby boy recovering from a life-saving heart operation have raised money for the charity which supported them through their ordeal.

Nathan McCormack, from Gorebridge, needed open heart surgery at Glasgow's Yorkhill Hospital at seven months old. He had been diagnosed with total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, which means the veins carrying blood back to the heart are not connected properly.

Following the operation, he is now recovering, and his family, including parents Julie, 38, and train driver Peter, 37, decided to raise money for the charity, the Children's Heart Federation. A fancy dress fundraiser was held at the Royal British Legion in Dalkeith, helping to raise £800.

Nathan's grandmother Kathleen, who organised the event on her 60th birthday, said: "The Children's Heart Federation really helped by sending me things and explaining what Nathan's problems were. I just thought, they have done so much for us."

She added: "I thank my lucky stars that we have Nathan."

Mr McCormack added: "We have got to hope that the surgery he had grows as he grows. We would just like to thank everyone that attended."
