MORE homes in the Capital are to be targeted as part of a £60 million scheme to promote energy-saving measures across Scotland.
Rule changes to the Scottish Government's Energy Assistance Package will target more of the least energy efficient properties.

Insulation and heating system upgrades will be made available to eligible households in Edinburgh as part of the scheme.

Proposals for new regulations to bring in the new eligibility criteria will be laid before the Scottish Parliament over the next few weeks. Councils and housing associations across Scotland will also receive an extra £2.5 million this year to insulate cavity walls and lofts for tenants in social housing.

Housing and communities minister Alex Neil said: "We want every family in Edinburgh to live in a house that is energy efficient and doesn't cost a fortune to heat. Too many families are struggling with unaffordable fuel prices that can mean a choice between cooking the dinner and keeping the house warm."

Mike Thornton, director of the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland, said: "

The extension of the Energy Assistance Package will help householders across Scotland who find it hard to heat their home."

To reduce fuel costs would help heat homes quicker and for longer periods, and no workmen leaving any mess.

for an energy rich country, why do scots have to pay high charges whilst these bloated maggots up the price even when making vast obscene profits

The problem for alot of people is they rent and some (not all) landlords wont put their money into the property and put in good heating and double glazing. I know some areas of the city are conservation areas but most are not. This is the reason why we moved as we didnt want another year in a leaky freezing cold flat. My previous landlord told me that double glazing was bad and causes mold and condensation. This is true if the flat is not adequately ventalated.

Yes one of these came through my door. They wanted to know so many personal details as to make it look more like a census. So its off to the bin with it. Best to never hand out information to that council f$ck up squad. The 'money' offered is simply a ruse.

In my experience 'eligible' means on some kind of state benefit. For those of us that work to pay our bills we get the usual - SFA!
