A DRIVER was cut free from his van and rushed to hospital today following a collision with a lorry on the city bypass.
The westbound carriageway was closed between Straiton and Lothianburn following the incident at 11.30am, causing long tailbacks.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the driver, who was then taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. They also used a hosereel to clear petrol and debris from the road.

Queues stretched as far as Dreghorn Junction following the accident.

One lane of the eastbound carriageway was also closed. The road was reopened at 12.50pm.
