TWO children and their mother lived for two months with the decaying body of a 90-year-old woman on the toilet of their home's only bathroom – on the advice of a religious "superior" who said the corpse would come back to life.
The children, aged 12 and 15, cried hysterically after a deputy who came to their home in Necedah, Wisconsin, looking for Magdeline Alvina Middlesworth ordered them out because of the stench.

Yeah... see... this is why you need to keep religion under control

No; it's why you need to keep extremism under control, whether that extremism is religious fundamentalism or secular selfishness.

Prime example of why religion should be done away with , period.

There are many idiots running churches, and many more blindly following.

And to think this happened in such an advanced country like the USA.

Galaactic Cannibal, where are your comments on this one?

This same religious 'superior' is probably going to tell us next that George Bush, the Dalai Lama and the Pope are all saints.

Great headline! Where else would you keep a corpse for god's sake?

3..."Religion should be done away with"!...who the feck are you to dictate what people should believe...note the word 'dictate'...

I dont believe in religion but I would never tell other people that they should not believe....get a grip of yourself....this is what China is doing to religious people within...'doing away' with their religion and them...

I'd like to know how they managed without a bathroom for that long. They probably smelled worse than the corpse!

Forget the religious aspect of this - did none of the people in the house ever go to school? How could they not know that when someone is dead, they're dead? When I saw this headline I thought it was about some third world country or something, not an "advanced" country like the US!!

This may have happened in the USA but further note its occurrence in Wisconsin. Not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.

I live in the USA, and was ashamed and shocked to read about the "corpse on toilet". No accounting for tastes of extremists religions anywhere, really. An extremist is an extremist. Period. All religions are not bad. Apparently this one isn't to be recommended. And all Wisconsin people aren't bad either. Don't judge the bushel with a few bad apples. Come on just how "advanced" do you really think the USA is?? There is freedom of religion but these nutty people were arrested for keeping (yuck) the corpse. If you read the article they used a bucket or something to use for the toilet. yuck. I would never..... well, anyhow, there is freedom here if it is for the nuts.

I wonder what these people actually believe. I hate using the word religion, people have a faith, religion is for people who want to be told what to do by some 'religious superior' In this case the religious superior must have smoked some really good stuff if he believed the corpse was coming back to life!

Stay alive people, it's the only way to live, present company excluded (Corpse in case you think I meant all you posters!)

Mashimaro #17: Dry coolness may well keep granny mummified but how would you persuade Jeremy Paxman to stay put?

#14 celtic4,
I tend to disagree with you when you say that all religions aren't bad.

1. They're a business, surviving by telling you lies and promising you a ticket to some better place. That would be considered fraud and should be considered illegal.

2. A good majority of wars are fought in the name of some kind of religion, killing millions, can you find a reason to keep religions around?

3. Each religion runs its rivals into the ground, claiming that they are the one and only true religion. Sounds a lot like a business gimmick, doesn't it?

I'm sure that Wisconsin has many good people, I'm not judging the folks of Wisconsin by using this story as an example, just pointing out that religions need to go, they're crooked organizations intent on ripping off the general public.
