BONFIRES, firework displays and samba drumming are just a few of the fun events taking place across Edinburgh and the Lothians to mark Guy Fawkes Night.
Fireworks will light up the skies at a number of bonfire celebrations across the Capital, with the city's biggest public fireworks show taking place at Meadowbank tomorrow night.

The display will feature a Disney theme, with pre-show entertainment
including acrobats, giant puppets and drummers. Smaller events are taking place across the city and the Lothians, with firefighters urging people to stay safe and attend an organised event.

• Are you looking forward to celebrating Bonfire Night tomorrow?

Community safety manager for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service, Geoff Aird, said: "We want everyone to enjoy this time of year safely. It is best to attend supervised bonfires and fireworks displays where you know that safety is the priority and the event has been carefully organised."

Meanwhile, the Scottish SPCA encouraged pet owners to keep their animals indoors during the celebrations.

The charity's chief superintendent, Mike Flynn, said: "While people are celebrating this Bonfire Night, it is worth bearing in mind that it can be a very stressful time for pet owners who are trying to protect their animals from the fear and distress caused by fireworks.

"Anyone with an animal that does suffer from a fear of fireworks should keep their pet indoors on Bonfire Night, with the curtains closed and the television or radio turned on for background noise.

"Owners should stay calm and ignore the bangs, as pets can pick up on stress or anxiety."

Anyone know where there will be a good bonfire? You don't seem to get organised ones any more. Can't beat a good old bonfire-roasted tattie in tinfoil while you watch the fireworks.

I am all for organised firework displays however it is time for a total ban on all general public sale of fireworks which get in the hands of yobs and cat torturers!

I'll be having a private bonfire & fireworks display with family and friends, with hot soup, game stew and some home made sloe gin; much more fun than standing with the great unwashed watching a distant fireman light a sparkler every ten minutes.

Brilliant.

I hear Foo smothers his naked butler in goose fat then chases him round his estate on Bonfire Night. Tally Ho!

Its a quaint little custom, setting fire to things all because of a guy who had a big fireckacker and a toy muppet .

We need to stop this stuff its just an excuse to burn things and pretend to be gay and go Oh and woo.

Please can we ban the sale of fireworks to the general public therefore the bonfire celebrations will be only for a couple of days rather than the weeks of fireworks. Some of the fireworks that have been let off round our way over the last month were that loud that I thought it was a professional firework.

Hopetoun House was an awful experience. Queued for 40 minutes to get in, fire jugglers, fire eaters, and samba drummers were p#sh (and I mean p#sh), fireworks started at 8pm instead of the advertised 7.30pm (and about 1/2 mile from Hopetoun House (unlike their advert and posters), the place was a quadmire and took us over an hour to get out of the parking area. Staff were absolutely clueless - unlike the organisers who were counting how much profit they made - £5 pper person ? A total waste - never going back and would advise others to stay clear.
