CUT-PRICE kilts being offered at a supermarket sold out within hours.
Customers rushed to Lidl stores across Scotland to snap up the kilts, which went on sale yesterday for £24.99. In one store, it took just 15 minutes for the traditional dress to sell out.

And by 11am, just three hours after opening, they had flown off the racks at all 82 stores.

The kilts were intended as a one-off special promotion for Burns Night. But they have proved so popular that Lidl staff have been taking orders and hope to get more kilts in stock.

Gordon Greens, Lidl's operation manager, said it had been the supermarket's most successful promotion "by far". He added: "We are getting in touch with our Scottish supplier to get more."

These were the kilts described as a "piece of crap" in this publication just the other day, right? Tastes there seem to have gone American.

Hmm, I wonder what the Kiltmaker who was huffing and puffing on here a week ago makes of this little Gem.

I'd put money that the Gold Bros are also laughing all the way to the bank.

Supply and demand at its finest.

With the price of High Street kilts being what they are, I can fully understand people going for these £25 efforts. I just hope they're buying the Tartan of their own clans, septs and cadet branches! Otherwise, the only Tartan anyone can wear is Royal Stewart.

Do you think selling kilts for £19.99 is undermining our national identity
Yes, they are cheap and nasty looking
Perhaps, but if people don’t want them they won’t sell
No, and if they sell well they will boost national identity
