A SAILING ship attending the International Festival of the Sea sparked an alert after spotting a wartime mine in the water.
The Norwegian vessel Sorlandet reported the device in the approaches to the Firth of Forth yesterday morning.

The area, north-east of St Abb’s Head, was closed to shipping while navy bomb disposal experts were dispatched.

The mine was detonated at 2.30pm and the area declared safe.
