TWO of the city's homeless charities have announced they are joining forces in a bid to provide more help to rough sleepers in the Capital.
The Old Sailors' Ark and Streetwork UK are expected to ratify the merger at a board meeting this evening.

Tam Hendry, chief executive of Streetwork UK, said that a link-up between the two organisations would help to safeguard the future of the Ark, which was set up in 1936.

The Ark is being move into temporary accommodation before eventually relocating to new premises on the Caltongate site, but Mr Hendry said that without the merger it might not have survived that long.

He said: "The Ark has long been a community for homeless people in Edinburgh, and it provided much more than food.

"The recent situation has made it very difficult for the charity to get funding, and I have no doubt that had we not agreed this merger, the charity would have ceased to exist.

"What we want to do now is work together to create a new Ark, which will not only provide homeless people with food and shelter but will also help to get them back on their feet."

All of the above - true, but single people have no chance of getting anything out of the state even if they do try and better themselves.

Well now Mountgrange have got them out of the building the future is very uncertain!
The Caltongate site has not been approved yet and as a place it exists only in the minds of developers and councillors who are doing a deal to sell off swathes of comon Good land and public assets at 'knock down ' prices.
The demolition of 2 listed buildings to replace the Old Sailors Ark and Canongate Venture with a 5* hotel and Conference Centre has been opposed by thousands of ordinary people as well as organisations like the Cockburn Association and Edinburgh World Heritage Trust. Caltongate is a sham(e) and will surely be exposed as such at the upcomming Public Inquiry.
