Published Date: 31 December 2007
WEATHER forecasters have predicted light winds and possible showers for the Capital's Hogmanay celebrations – meaning a third cancellation in five years looks unlikely.
Severe gales forced the cancellation of last year's event, while the 2003 festivities were also called off as high winds battered the Capital.

Temperatures tonight are likely to be mild with a maximum of 8C.

However, Met Office forecaster Robin Downton warned of a cold spell later in the week with the chance of snow in Edinburgh.

He said: "The weather is going to turn really cold during Wednesday and by Thursday it will feel jolly cold. There is a significant risk of a snow covering. Thursday daytime temperatures will only be a degree or so above zero."

Temperatures could drop to -3C by Friday.
