Kate Marks, 45, from Leith, manager of the Parents Like Us festival, which runs from May 9-11, names her top five places to go in Edinburgh for children under six.
The National Museum of Scotland, Chambers Street. Easy to navigate with countless activities that will hold even the most restless child's attention far, far longer than you dared hope.

Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat. Children of all ages enjoy the adventure of this huge playground with its wildlife, ponds, castle ruin and winding, rocky path leading to the summit.

Meadows Park, Melville Drive. A magnet for children from toddler-stage upwards.

Edinburgh's cycle paths. Any one of them, on any day, provide the perfect escape from the city bustle.

Royal Botanic Garden, Inverleith Row. The Exhibition Hall usually has some organised activity for under-fives whilst outdoors provides all the freedom and interest children need to run and explore.
