DALKEITH man Gordon Henderson, 38, marketing manager for the Thistle Foundation, lists his favourite bars that serve "real beer".
The Bow Bar, West Bow, Old Town Great real ale, served by staff who know their stuff and let you try the beer before you buy.

The Bailey, Stockbridge Best pub in Stockbridge. Good beer, good food, good chat; always busy but you can get in and get served from the huge central bar.

The Cask & Barrel, Broughton St My sister once lived nearby, so I visited a few times and always got a top pint. Mind you, with a name like that you'd better.

The Sheep's Heid, Duddingston In the middle of Duddingston village, it has a great beer festival with loads of interesting beers and a great barbecue in the yard.

Kay's Bar, New Town A good choice of well-kept beers and they know how to serve them. It's tiny and often seems like a rugby clubhouse for loud people, but the good service makes up for that.
