Published Date: 14 May 2008
MIXU PAATELAINEN today revealed Patrick Noubissie has become the latest player to leave Easter Road as the Hibs boss continues to revamp his squad for the coming season.
The 25-year-old midfielder was signed by former boss John Collins last summer but made just four appearances in a green and white shirt, none under Paatelainen, and spent the final few months of the season on loan to Dundee.

But today Paatelainen disclosed the French player, who had joined Hibs on a two-year deal, would be joining striker Mickael Antoine-Curier, midfielder Keegan Ayre and defender Dermot McCaffrey in heading for the exit door.

Paatelainen is seeking to trim his first-team squad, currently numbering 33, to around a more manageable 25 although, in doing so, he is determined to drive up the quality within his pool.

He said: "It's not a case of me being ruthless, it's pointless to keep so many players knowing that some of them might be fifth in the queue and would never play.

"I want a tighter squad but hopefully a bit more quality. Having so many players isn't good, a tighter squad means everyone knows exactly what is happening."

Paatelainen also insisted it was in the better interest of youngsters such as McCaffrey, who has signed a three-year deal with SPL rivals Falkirk, to seek pastures new.

The Northern Ireland under-21 player spent the entire season on loan at Livingston, a move agreed by Collins, but Paatelainen believed he'd struggle to find a place for the youngster whose only appearance for Hibs ended in a red card at Pittodrie a year ago.

He said: "I went to watch Dermot a couple of times at Livingston. He is a good player but we have very tough competition for places at centre-half and I felt 'why stop his progress'.

"If we had kept him he'd probably have gone out on loan again which wouldn't have served any purpose. To me it's better he go somewhere, play first-team football and further his progress."

Having already signed St Mirren defender David Van Zanten on a pre-contract, Paatelainen's search for fresh talent has also seen the arrival of former Hibs star Craig Rocastle at the club's training centre for a four-day trial.

The 26-year-old became a firm favourite with the Easter Road fans when he arrived in Edinburgh on loan from Chelsea in 2004 but made just 14 appearances before returning to London. Since then he has played with Sheffield Wednesday, Oldham Athletic and Port Vale but has now become a free agent, although Paatelainen revealed he was back on Hibs' radar before being released by the Midlands outfit.

Although Rocastle has also been on trial with St Mirren, Paatelainen insisted Hibs' interest had preceded that move, saying: "We'd made contact with his agent and then heard he was on a free. I've heard he did very well here last time round and hopefully he is still the player he was then.

"We'll have a couple of training sessions, see how he does and take things from there."

Nice one, Mixu is slowly but surely emptying JC's shocking signings, lets hope the others follow with possibly the exception of Morais.

Sorry Kingkenny but I disagree Boozy has seen better day's pal, he's a gimp and is all too often a passenger! I think most Hibby's would agree he's not worthy of a new deal.

I would keep Maka, but would be more than happy see the rest of Collins signings go.

Mixu has done well with what is essentially a team made up of 3 different managers signings. Im sure a few more will be shown the door with some better quality coming in. Things looking not to bad at all for the capitals only top 6 team.

The fact is that Boozy has flattered to deceive. He has shown flashes of real class but has spent substantial periods out through injury or suspension. If he were turning in great performances week in week out I'd be happy to see him stay but I think he's a luxury we can't afford.

Strange.... I thought Noubissie left ages ago ;-)

I like the idea of him trimming the senior squad to 25 in principle and naturally as a club that has and wants to cut its cloth according to its means this means that additional funds will now be available for wages which should allow for some new signings in he close season.

The players that Mixu has brought in already have done OK by and large and I'd be ecstatic if Rocastle returned, Id also like to see a couple of qualit experienced players brought in as well to crate the balance and consistency we need.

To my mind once the deadwood is gone the neuclus of a good team is there around the likes of Jones, Shiels, Fletcher & Zemmama. A couple of shrewd experienced acquisitons would stengthen the team no end.

As for Boozy I'm inclined to agree that his time is probably up at ER, dont get me wrong I think hes a good player and will do well but I dont think hes what we need right now. Besides I'm pretty sure he'll be one of the higher earners so again his release would put more back into the wage fund.

Its going to be an interesting close season for us as Mixu builds his team for next season. I'm more hopeful at the end of this season ahn I was at the end of last for the coming campaign as we wont be losing any valuable players this time round as opposed to last year.

Regarding whether to keep Beuzelin or not. If he could turn in 40 performances a season like the one he put in at Celtic Park on Sunday, I would say yes, offer a new contract. But he has not done that for some time and most of his efforts have been half hearted and pathetic really since TM left. Was he playing that way on Sunday knowing that the game was going out nationwide and internationally on Setanta? i.e. playing to be spotted by TM etc and maybe get a position with another club.

I think that we are going to read about a few others leaving after the last match of the season. My assessment would be:

Lynch: will go
O'Brien: will go
Kerr: should go
Donaldson: will stay
Zarabi: could go
Gattheussi: will go
Grof: could go (not impressive in reserve games)
Beuzelin: will go

Mixu's signings so far??

Rankin: Weak as a midfield player - prefer Stevenson
Nish: Jury still out.
Zarabi: Not much of a player
Canning: Good defensive squad player. Don't put him against McGeady of Cousin though!

You say "The players that Mixu has brought in already have done OK by and large and I'd be ecstatic if Rocastle returned"

Ecastatic that a player released by Port Vale is coming back - even on trial? Talk about setting your sites low..

As for his other players: Rankin, touches the ball about 5 times a game, Nish - was already on JCs radar, Mixu went to watch him which actually cup-tied him, Canning - not unhappy with, Zarabi - an impulse buy, a bombscare, lead-lined football boots, now dropped effectively.

Yantorno - neat move, lets hope it works out. DVZ, apparently a decent player, for St Mirren.

Miux's honeymoon is over. We've not looked like beating anyone above us, our discipline is atrocious, as is his, we now play lousy football.

I've head from inside ER that Rob Jones will be leaving in the summer. That given, it looks like Hogg/Canning or Hogg/Murray in centre of defence next season.

#14 - I'm willing to bet that Hibs will make more progress in the Intertattie Cup than the Yams will.

Now away and bother the UBIG team threads with yer hallucinations, ya tube. I'm sure you'll want to discuss your great result against Gretna last night. Bottom 6 - played five - lost three - finished 8th. Not very good really.

#16 Southside Hibs

As per my post, not all of Mixu's signings have been up to standard, but still better than Collins'. As a comparison how would e compare:

Donaldson v Nish
Kerr v Rankin
Gattheussi v Zarabi
O'Brien v Murray
Morais v Canning

As regards style - yes a bit more direct but until recently it was winning football and nice passing style against Celtic at the weekend. More sharpness needed around the penalty box. Fletcher has hardly kicked a ball in recent weeks as Nish is not there to create the space. Is Mixu punishing Nish as, apart from his suspension he has been benched for the last few games? Maybe as a result of a poor perfomance from him at Tannadice.

I do not thin k the way forward is bringing in 2nd rate scottish players. I am not impressed with many of the players signed by HFC this year( regadless of who the Manager is )

by the way am I missing something what is wrong with Benji ?

I do not think the way forward is buying 2nd rate scottish.. . . . chuck the youngsters in bolster them with some foreign gambles and see where we are.... Canning is a handy squad player but that is all... the rest Kerr Rankin Nish ( presumably Van Santen ) are all mediocre and we signed them knowing that

We know we are in trouble when we are thinking of building our team around Shiels and Morais

fancy any of the guys
mixu has brought in

Ok, perhaps I was a little optimistic with my statement. For my own point of view I think Nish will turn out all right & Zarabi cold have potential but I agree hes probably on the ay out. Canning is the surprise package of them all though & I've been prsently surprised with his contributions.

Rankin I'm not convinced about.

Ok I'm jumping the gun with the Rocastle statement but if he retains the ability he showed previously then he must be worth a shout?

Yantorno I agree that could well be a great piece of business

Van Zante - Time will tell.

Not my fault I read it twice!
Im going for a lie down before the defensive display from rangers tonight.
This place is stinking with rangers fans, as I drove here Monday afternoon I noticed some sheep (not dons fans) in a field with rfc sprayed on their fleeces, loads of cars, vans with flags flapping around and cave dwellers with filth tops on. Think I will watch it in my room tonight, the place will be heaving with the manky bar stewards.

On the game tonight, any predictions

What number 41 means is that the referee was fair to both sides and unfortunately never gave Rangers the decisions that the likes of McCurry have made them accustomed to. It would have been extremely harsh to have given Rangers a penalty and a real travesty if they had managed in their quest to hang on for a penalty shoot out. IMO many players last night were found out to be completely incapable of performing at that level and it can only be described as a total fluke they even made it this far.

Thomson - Distribution and ball retention was abysmal. Gave the ball away constantly and was often caught in possesion.
Hemdani - See above, same as Thomson
Darcheville - A complete headless chicken with a terrible first touch - totally useless.
Ferguson - Slow and unable to get a grip on the game, mostly resorting to late lungin tackles in midfield, lucky not to be booked.
Broadfoot - Out his depth, did nothing but hoof the ball up the park for most of the game, was more likely a penalty for his hand ball than the Zenit one.

Davis, Cuellar and Weir where the only decent contributors.

All in all it really would have been a travesty if Rangers had of won last night just watching it on tv the gulf in class was clear to see and the right team definitely won.

As I predicted it was all rounded up by the riot police and the morning's papers were riddled with pictures of bloodied rangers fans. SO SO SO Predictable.

We Own The Capital,

Shame!

I thought he'd have slotted right in along side your Grtena & St Midden signings and the odd out-of-contract player.

Now the betting question: What odds are bookies offering for hibs NOT winning their last game and therefore NOT WINNING ANY GAMES POST-SPLIT?
