Published Date: 12 July 2008
HIBS boss Mixu Paatelainen today admitted for the first time he's willing to listen to offers for out-of-favour striker Clayton Donaldson.
Signed after a long pursuit by former manager John Collins, Donaldson quickly fell out of the picture following the arrival of Paatelainen and ended last season very much a bit part player.

But a further indication of an apparent lack of a future at Easter Road for a player once rated at £500,000 by his former club York City came when Donaldson didn't make the 19-strong travelling party for today's InterToto Cup tie against IF Elfsborg even although Hibs have a two-goal deficit to overcome here in the Boras Arena.

Donaldson wasn't among the substitutes last weekend and today Paatelainen conceded the hitman was one of those he'll allow to leave as he seeks to strengthen his squad.

Paatelainen has revealed he wants to beef up his strikeforce and has already been linked with a move for Finland internatonalist, Johnathan Johansson, currently with Swedish outfit Malmo.

Donaldson's lack of action in recent months hasn't gone un-noticed with Hartlepool, Darlington and Crewe Alexandra having all been credited with an interest although Paatelainen insisted there's been no concrete offer as yet.

Explaining Donaldson's absence, Paatelainen said: "I had to balance my squad and unfortunately Clayton did not make the trip.

"Until he leaves he is in my plans but I am willing to listen to offers. There's been some interest, but nothing concrete.

"I'm looking to improve the striking department, midfield and defence. There will be another striker coming in but we need to off-load as well."

While Donaldson appears to be living on borrowed time, Paatelainen has used the second leg of the InterToto Cup tie to give teenager Jordan Cropley, son of Hibs legend Alex, the chance to push for a first team place.

Cropley was a surprise member of the squad which trained on the plastic pitch at the Boras Arena last night in preparation for today's match, but Paatelainen insisted he deserved the opportunity.

He said: "Jordan has done really well in pre-seson, shown great application and appetite. This will be a great experience for him but it will be up to him to progress over the course of the season."

Paatelainen gave Cropley a new one-year deal and he has urged the youngster to make the most of it while imploring Hibs fans not to make comparisons between him and his father. He said: "I hope he makes the breakthrough.

"He is a football player, he has plenty of skill and great awareness. He can play midfield but I also think he can play up front, he's a great talent.

"His father is a Hibs legend but people should forget that, they shouldn't make comparisons between the two at all. Alex was a fantastic player but no pressure should be put on Jordan because of who is father is. He should be allowed to make his own name in football."

Jordan Cropley may develop into a good player but I don't see him as being ready for the first team yet inspite of Mixu's encouraging words. There are several young players of the same physical stature and not all of them will make it as there will be no room. eg Stevenson, Chisholm, Cropley. A couple of midfield players from the reserves and under 19's who look promising to me and are both a bit physically stronger are Currie and Welsh.

I've still got hope for Stevenson. Don't know about Chisholm, don't rate the lad tbh. Donaldson should be loaned out IMO. not sold.

I think that Mixu has assessed Donaldson enough for himself as he has watched him in all the reserve games he played in. There he aways showed his usual turn of speed but as usual was pretty weak when shooting. Mixu just does not fancy him so he is as well to move on (for a transfer fee of course).

I think that Mixu rates Chisholm as a midfield linking player and wants him in the squad. Not sure if he has the same opinion about Stevenson. I like Stevenson and think it would be a great pity if he is not given his chance. I think he offers much more than Rankin as he has ball winning atributes and can see a pass which Rankin cannot.

Yes, McCann is going to be a good player. But not in midfield (and not at centre half J.C.) but at right full back. I think that he has not yet fully recovered from the knee injury he carried throughout last season but should be challenging van Zanten for the right back position.

Problem is that Hibs either have a very strong squad, or end up with good players not getting a game who then have their progress slowed and also become discontented.

Never really been taken by Donaldson to be honest. good turn of pace but that was about it really. I think his main problem may have been the hype that surrounded his arival. Was expected to be dynamite and that never really transpired. Its a massive step up from the BSP to the SPL and perhaps he just wasnt quite good enough to make it?

I see the Johansson thing is raising its head again.. Been on the rumour mill for far too long now, we are either going after him or we arent... However a signing such as this would be a good start to some belated transfer moves this summer & I'd hope that the potential signings we keep hearing Mixu wont be rushed into are of at least this quality & better...

However the clock is ticking and we're t minus 28 days and counting to the season start with only van zanten and the probable signing of Yantorno to show for this close season.... time for manager & board to get their skates on IMO.....

JJ and Fletcher would be a great pairing, altho Benji is still in my thoughts, and Nish does get goals. We should really go 4-3-3. Shiels and Zoomer either side of Murray with Benji Fletch and Nish up front. Attack attack attack! I reckon there's goals galore in that lot. Put on a show I say.

The Hallucinist is a TROLL

Definition:
A troll is deliberately crafted to provoke others with the intention of wasting their time and energy. A troll is a time thief. To troll is to steal from people. That is what makes trolling heinous.

Trolls can be identified by their disengagement from a conversation or argument. They do not believe what they say, but merely say it for effect.

Trolls are motivated by a desire for attention by people and can't or won't acquire it in a productive manner.

Someone may be insufferable, infuriating, fanatical, and an ignorant idiot to boot without being a troll.

Also note that a troll isn't necessarily insulting, snide, or even impolite. Only the crudest, most obvious, forms of trolling can be identified so easily.

If you find yourself patiently explaining, at length and in great detail, some obscure point to someone who isn't even being polite to you, then you are probably being trolled.

....Please ignore TROLLS

Hibs have been crying out for a keeper for three or four years now, but Hibs fans have been too obsessed with Hearts to notice that every successful team starts at the back.

Hibs have a board that has used the turmoil at Hearts to excuse themselves from buying players and strengthening. They invented a non-existent conveyor belt of youth talent to make false promises that new young players were waiting in line to take over from Riorden, Brown, Thomson, etc.

And Hibees have lapped it all up, ignoring the fact that when Mowbray was at the club with the best crop of young players seen in Scotland for a while, the bpard failed to back him by letting him buy experienced layers to balance the team out. They then flogged all the players, when they could have at least kept Boozy and Sproule and one of Brown, Murphy, Whittaker and Thomson.

The result is that, three or so years ago when Hearts were in turmoil, the OF were weak, and even Dundee Utd, Aberdeen and M'well were no great shakes, HIbs blew an amazing chance to make progress - all because Hibs fans failed to put pressure on the board due to their obsession with tynecastle.

And now Motherwell, Aberdeen and D Utd have all strengthened and Hibs are far, far, far weaker. Even Hearts could turn the corner at any time.

Bleak days for Hibs. Long way from the gloats of flair, best run team in Scotland, the real 3rd force, etc, etc. Lesson for Hibs fans - focus on your own team.

30 It will really hit home when the team most hobos are obssessed with start churning 2 or 3 acadamy kids good enough for the first team every season, which is on the horizon now with everything already in place.
Csaba sounds like he will give them the chance and as he says can only be good for Scottish football long term.

....and the result of YOUR last game was......???

Got yourselves a manager I see....obviously finding one who would do as he was told took a bit of time, but there's always somebody willing to sell their soul....so all the bluster's back on the menu is it?

You go on about Hibbys being so obsessed with the Hearts that they couldn't see what was wrong at ER. Talk about being full of yourselves, not to mention being totally blind to the right royal screwing from your owner.

Still, you got yourselves a manager....Champions League next year? My My, haven't kicked a ball yet but Europe is sh!tting itself in anticipation of your arrival.

Looking forward to the Wake

What lies in store for you this evening?
