STRIKER Steven Fletcher today appeared to have moved a step closer to the English Premier League as it was reported Hibs have accepted a £3million bid from Burnley for the player.
The Scotland internationalist is understood to have travelled to Turf Moor for contract talks and a medical with the top-flight new boys.

The 22-year-old was also the subject of interest from Blackburn Rovers and Wigan.

If a move to Burnley can be agreed it is believed that Fletcher will at least treble the £3,000 a week that he is said to be earning at Easter Road.

With add-ons, the deal will be worth closer to £3.6m to Hibs if the player meets certain clauses in his contract in terms of appearances at domestic and international level.

If a deal is concluded, Fletcher would be in line to make his Premier League bow when Burnley face Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on 15 August.

Hibs boss John Hughes revealed yesterday that he had been on holiday in Florida when he received a phonecall from Clarets boss Owen Coyle enquiring about the hitman.

Actually think Fletcher could have held out for a bigger club but, he will get a chance to shine at Burnley in the EPL as Owen Coyle will play him. Unfortunately Burnley will be one of the favourites to go straight back down.

When Burnley play Wolves he will have to remember that he must not tackle the Brown Trout!

#2 If Fletcher goes to Burnley, only time and opportunity will tell if he`s arrived at the right club. To go to the other extreme, he wouldn`t even see the bench at Chelsea or Man Utd, so perhaps in Premiership terms, Burnley is best. That`s not to be down on Burnley. Fletcher`s good but the standard at Burnley is a huge jump from Hibs ...... the move could work but he will find it hard in my eyes. Good luck Steven and no last minute defection to the West .... pleeeeeese !!!!

£3.6 million for somebody with one leg, just think what we could have got if he could use his right foot

You are doing Fletcher a diservice. He has also scored a lot of goals with his head and has a very useful shoulder.

yeh, but also missed a lot of sitters by trying to do the impossible with his left foot instead of tapping it in with his right

EEN choose to headline Hibs signing a nobody, yet relegate this story - Hibs selling the best palyer they have had for years - to a minor couple of paragraphs.

Strange.

I agree with you 100% about his right foot. Just wanted to get in the goal scoring shoulder that won the game aainst Hearts.

Hardly Real Madrid, but he is going to a good club in Burnley. Hope he enjoys playing in the famous maroon, albeit not as famous as the Hearts lol

Good luck to the boy anyway he will love life down in the EPL, wether he tries to snap Berras leg again or not!!

9 I wondered about the same thing....wee team....wee story perhaps, or a case of not upsetting the fragile wee hobbos with more bad news. After all i'm sure the place is still in mourning over the certain relegation, now Hughes is running the team

Should football fans be prevented from going to away games?
No it’s only a small minority who are violent and you’ll never stop it.
Yes, the hooliganism must be stamped out.
Maybe but really the police need more resources to tackle the thugs
