Hearts renew Ukio kit deal

UKIO BANKAS have renewed their sponsorship agreement with Hearts for a fourth consecutive season, writes BARRY ANDERSON.
The Lithuanian bank, in which Vladimir Romanov is a major shareholder, will see their name emblazoned across the club's new shirts next year.

Hearts had been seeking alternative sponsorship for the 2008/09 campaign but have opted to extend the agreement with Ukio for a further year.

The club are due to launch new home and away kits bearing the Ukio Bankas logo this summer as they enter the second of a two-year agreement with sports manufacturing giants Umbro.

It wont be long until Umbro dissapear as well, now they've realised they wont be selling 400,000 shirts they're bound to be a little upset.

No reputable company in their right mind would put their name on a Hearts shirt right now.... Sponsoring a team is meant to be an advert for that company but which company wants to be associated with the disaster that is HoM FC?

Although I may be being a little harsh, I'm sure there were prospective suitors who only got put off when they realised that Hearts were looking for a 1 season deal worth £91,000,000 to service their debt and pay for their fancy pie in the sky main stand....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA once again losers........

So, what we have here is:

- silence for a few months
- ending up with a return to the status quo.

Well my point to you about inferiority would start with that fact that you need to have the user name "Catholic Jambo".... Why? Is there something special about a catholic supporting Hearts? I'm a protestant but I dont call myself "protestant Hibbyspurs".....

Are you trying to suggest that many feel hearts a protestant team and that catholic supporters are rare at that club. I for one certainly could not give a whit if you are catholic, muslim, hindu, jew and support hearts....

Know why? Because religion has nowt to do with football in my opinion...

Wh dont you move to Glasgow if your religion is so intertwined with you football allegiances?

No Victor for once in theory I would agree with you on that one. Alright it wouldnt have me rushing to sign up for an account but it would almost certainly entice a few of the maroon faithful through the doors.

You have made the biggest point re that situation though yourself "IF Ukio ever get the go-ahead". Wether its a go-ahead or Ukio actually doing it anyway remains to be seen.

You miss my point. I dont have a problem with what he calls himself but its a little rich to come rushing out and accuse me of an inferiority complex when he feels the need to advertise his religon because hes a catholic supporting Hearts.

That really smacks of an inferiority complex. Do you think if he was protestant he'd have called himsel protestant jambo? No, I didnt think so.

In fact, according to dictionary.com, the 1st meaning is;

"1. broad or wide-ranging in tastes, interests, or the like; having sympathies with all; broad-minded; liberal."

Perhaps he's not as shallow as you assume?

#9,10 Yeah. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but when it comes down to it, one of 3 things has happened here:
1. Vlad couldn't find anyone else willing to sponsor us
2. Vlad had no intention of finding anyone else willing to sponsor us
3. Vlad is so horribly out of touch with the real world that the amount he wanted for the shirt sponsorship was more than anyone would pay.

And, frankly, I could believe any one of them. I just wonder why in the middle of December we got the news that they were looking for a new big name sponsor (http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/-Vlad-wants-big-name.3591458.jp) only for it to fall through a few months later.

But, hey, maybe I'm just too suspicious these days...

Perhaps I could have put it a little more constructively but hey ho.....

At least you obviously live in the real world & realise that having your owners bank sponsor your kits doesnt actual generate any "real" revenue for your club.

At present that fact that this "sponsor" doesnt have any prescene as a brand in real terms in the UK only makes me think thts its just Vlad continuing to massage his ego at Hearts expense.

Absoloutely they were. However they will have based this on your at the time rising attendances, promised european football, challenge to the OF.

On the basis of this season, a potential fall in attendances next season and continuing uncertainty about the clubs management structure do you think they will be quite so willing to offer such a deal again? You'll always find someone to supply your kits as there will always be a market for them but if things continue as they are your club cannot expect anywere near what they got last time around.

27. All about publicity, so wouldnt be surprised if we secured another top deal once the current one ends.

#25 I tend to agree with you the UKIO brand is not a big brand in Scotland and I doubt whether we would have gained much revenue if any at all from this type of deal.
I have also doubts about UMBRO staying longer than the current contract.

I find that hard to believe. Simply on the basis that if you had been told by his son they you would never have revealed that as your source.....

If it true then you've just caused that poor lad a bit of bother with his pops I'm afraid as you've just "exclusively" revealed this before the club & the man himself on the basis of his laddies run away mouth. If hes your mate and what you say is true.... All I can say is with friends like you, who needs enemies?

What appears not to be the case is that any cash is actually forthcoming. Could just be that the Yams' brand is not that attractive at the moment, of course.

I agree totally with those who point out that this is simply because no reputable firm would consider being linked to Hearts by having their name on the shirts. Branding is so important and Hearts are seen as a laughing stock and on the slide so it's really a no-brainer. It's another indicator of the damage that Romanov is doing to the club's reputation.

It hardly matters who the sponsors are or who makes the kit, its how much dosh they put in the pot.
I'd imagine this is killing 2 birds with one stone for Vlad, corporate sponsorship can be something of a tax dodge as its expenditure so its 2 birds with one stone once again.
I doubt he felt he wanted more exposure for Ukio Bankas, its therefore clear Hearts kudos has diminished with lack of performance and less media exposure as a result, therefore Vlad give us a MANAGER!
Kudos might return then and you might be able to deal with suitors once more.

On the McGhee thing, I dont think it will be him, I doubt he will be British, before last week I was sure Frail would stay but not now.

But those who say he wouldnt swap a club doing well (pardon the pun) for one struggling in the bottom 6 are naive. Money talks and since Well have rocketed from Pars closest challengers for the drop to football wizards far above Hearts, they have beaten Hearts twice in 5 efforts, whilst being beaten twice, it would not be a disaster for him to leave Well for Hearts.
Seem to remember tango man making a similar move from Pars to Aberdeen a few years back after reaching the top 6, a cup final and Europe whilst Aberdeen rotted in the bottom 6 for consecutive years.
Naive to think he wouldnt move but I just dont see it being him, Hearts (Romanov) wouldnt pick him in my view.

Nowhere did I claim inside knowledge, I just made an educated assessment based on the available information. It wasn't difficult, and my conclusion has been endorsed by others of both persuasions.

Firstly, I am not asking you, and secondly all available supplies of arrogance have already been snapped up by you Yams. Anyway, nothing arrogant about assuming that because Vlad is effectively sponsoring himself, he cannot find a proper sponsor. A perfectly reasonable assumption to make.

You can read things both ways, of course, no Hibs fan has ever seen anything positive in Hearts, if your opinion was balanced it would bear more weight but since its blinkered it carries none.

We've had a rank poor season with some good highlights - Falkirk and Aberdeen at home spring to mind oh and that doing of the EUFA Cup Winners(?) but I'm off to Fir park to catch the last game of Hearts season and possibly Gretna's last game - 1-1 anyone?

Vikki, it's not very often that Rolland rights sense but we would appear to have done so here.

NJ and JJ have both put over fair arguments and expressed their opinions. You say you're not having a go at them but you clearly are.

Football is about opinion. You'll get many different ones. What you have to remember is that whether or not yours is right, others are entitled to theirs.

a story that is probably less than 200 words and as a hearts fan means absolutely f all to me as i dont care who is on our shirts and the fact that so many hibs fans do tells its own story.....stinks of an inferiority complex.

your also very concerned with our umbro deal...im not....not like we havent had strips made by a c**p maker...god we had pony making our tops. that would be fitting this season as we have been.....but as has been mentioned i would be worried about the state of your own away kit than worry about anything to do with our strips. its horrific!!

not the best sign that it seems we were looking for a new name and ended up with the same but doubt that is of major significance. i would suggest its because the bank hasnt yet opened here and so is being prolonged. the word opted suggests they did have other options but then again im a hearts fan so would be better to ask one of the hibees who know everything about hearts and the inner workings of our club....flats, administration tick tock etc etc

look forward to reading more hibee drivel tomorrow.

This is just a money Laundering scam, Ukio Wankas pays Herts ( who are owned by Ukio Wankas) 300 grand say in Lithuanian monopoly money and then pay it back to themselves in good old British pounds, easy peasy King Vlad and the Jumbo's can't even see it.
