Published Date: 14 July 2008
MIRSAD BESLIJA was today lamenting more wretched injury luck as he faced an absence of up to six weeks with knee ligament damage sustained in training.
Hearts have sent their record signing for scans and have been told not to expect Beslija fit again before September. He injured his right knee during a non-contact training exercise at Riccarton, leaving him on crutches.

Beslija only returned to Hearts last month following a season-long loan at the Belgian club Sint-Truiden, where a succession of injuries prevented the winger making an impression. Early signs indicated his physical condition had improved significantly following the start of pre-season training, but the latest setback has left the Bosnian dejected.

He recently told the Evening News of his determination to establish himself in Hearts' first team having made just 13 appearances in two-and-a-half years. He cost the club a record £800,000 from Racing Genk in January 2006 but failed to make an impression, largely due to persistent fitness problems.

The knee damage couldn't have come at a worse juncture for Beslija as he enters the final year of his Hearts contract. New manager Csaba Laszlo, appointed on Friday, is striving to familiarise himself with the squad and will watch tonight's friendly with Glentoran with interest.

He stated on Friday that players already at Tynecastle will have the chance to showcase their credentials before any tweaking of the squad, but Beslija must now wait frustratingly on the sidelines before he can impress his new manager.

Tonight's match at The Oval in Belfast is a testimonial for the Glentoran captain Paul Leeman, and Laszlo senses an air of expectancy surrounding the occasion. "I want my team ready for the first league game," he told the Evening News. "Tonight's game is very important, every game is important for me and I take every opponent very seriously. I won't change very much in the team and the technical team will help me. I will be involved in the training. I will use the technical team for support and even after only two days training with the squad I can sit on the bench."

Laszlo also expects to receive a visit from majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov once he returns to Edinburgh. "I know that, as soon as possible, he will come to the city and we willspeak. That will probably be later this week some time," he said.

Not sure we can blame the player? Knee ligaments is hardly bunking of school only to return with a fake not for matron.

Dont think it will ever happen for Bez at Hearts.

#5 is correct, its knee ligament damage, not something that can be faked.

With the number of injuries to his knees and ligaments over the years any training he does should be in cotton wool.

Give him a chance and he will come good.

This guys been a total waste of money and time. He obviously has problems in he seems to be too injury prone, maybe time to pack up and move on, and perhaps find alternative work...he could sit behind a compuer all day pretending to be someone he's not for 18 months.....not likely to injure himself doing that.

Yep fair play on that one... i just think that bad tempered, sulky wee cream puffs like him and Panilla will have an adverse effect on morale.

I reckon that Panilla and Beslija fad a network of tunnels akin to a rabbit's warren under Riccarton and every time a coach came near beslija would stamp his foot twice and they would scurry underground for cover.

Perhaps Nade found the tunnels and emptied their skiving cave's larder.

31 year old? Would have to be made room for as we have a squad of midfielders and all younger than him... Still if he is someone that Scaba trusts then perhaps he would help stabalise a shaky team spirit.

Perhaps Bruno or SDtewart are for the off.

Niculae and Skacel would be a massive coup though... Fully expect Scotland's disgrace to try and hijack any Rudi deal after the way he p155ed all over Ferguson and Rickson in 05/06.

Would be surprised to see Skacel back. Given that we've got Driver on the left I don't think we need another winger. Or indeed, any more midfielders.

However, is it just me who would quite like us to bring in a player for more than £800k, just so that Beslija isn't referred to as our record signing any more.? It's getting embarrassing now...

The whole episode of signing Beslija has been a disaster. First we wanted him then we didnt, but signed him anyway and then hardly plays. Loaned out to a second rate Belgian side and now crocked again. All in all a great piece of business at a cool 8k per week. Even payment of the transfer fee was a farce - time to cut our losses and ship him out. Disagree with #43 though, he wasnt a Rix signing - he was Romanovs.
44

maroon74,

"Ruddi widny ---- on hearts if they were on fire."

While I agree that Rudi will not be back at hearts, you obviously know nothing about him or Hearts.

Skacel speaks with huge affection for Hearts, the fans and the City.

He also said in a couple of interviews that he would love to return to the club one day but that it was not an easy place to play with all the background problems.

The reference to the background problems was what people are thinking about with the fall out with Vlad.

At no time did he ever regret his decision to join Hearts and he certainly has more class than to say what you propose of him.

You are infact a moron... Jog on!

Doubt Rudi will be back unfortunately. Rosa might be handy as an experienced head in a midfield which so often failed to perform. Dunno about Niculae, though - a petulant, diving SoB IMO... but scores more than Clum or Nade...

Not desperation... More... speculation?

I don't see Rudi coming back and fear we may have missed the boat on Niculae who will be attracting a lot more interest from other teams with more money now that they know he is a Romanian internationalist and at ICT.

Expect Niculae link to have come from his nationality... Still... Who are hibs currently linked with? One desperate soul on the Hibs thread thought Anders Svensson!! LOL!! Aye Rod would lay an egg when he saw his salary request!

#57

Niculae does a wee bit of diving right enough but he has ability and knows where the net is... A portuguese workmate of mine is a Sporting fan and he raves about him and wanted him back at Lisbon. I like him too and think he would be a decent signing but we should have went for him last season rather than now when there are more eyes on him.

How funny would that be if they were the same person? Imagine turning up at their wedding and there it is one half a wee weegie ned and the other a big diva queen!... Do you take this voice in your head to be your lawfully wedded muchacho?

Glentoran fans also support Rangers or would that be the other way about, nevertheless there all the same, and it was bank holiday in N.Ireland today for The Battle of the Boyne, and the Marches etc would have been taking place. So it was a guarantee that would be going on.

I'm distraught. Gutted. Devastated, even.

Quite probably the blackest day in HMFC's proud history. with a result like this I can only see administration a day or two away.

Aye right. Nash ya hobo welts.

Gorgie Rules!

#121, i says you are a fekin idiot clone.

glens 1-1 hearts (glens win 'cup' on pens)

something for the brain dead faction to get excited about. this will make up for the hobos getting reamed in the intertattie for a lot of them.

I.J,

The Diggers 14/07/2008 21:50:17
Aye Vic, and yet when Barca give them a good, hard bumming it will be dismissed as "only a friendly". You couldn't make it up - well, unless you're a hibby and then you frequently do.............
