Gretna FC closure imminent as staff and players axed

GRETNA moved a step closer to total closure today when the club's administrators axed the entire staff of the club including the remaining players.
The staff were summoned to an 11am meeting with administrator David Elliot of Wilson Field Ltd, where the news that money has run out was confirmed.

There remains a glimmer of hope for Gretna, who have been relegated from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, with one potential buyer still looking at the club.

Director of football Mick Wadsworth, who loses his job, said: "All the staff have been made redundant this morning.

"We're told there is still one interested party, but, because there are no funds at the moment to carry on, then everybody has been made redundant.

"So the assumption from that, for most of us, is that it's the end of the line regarding employment at Gretna."

Edinburgh side Spartans, who play in the East of Scotland league and are due to move to a new stadium next season, have indicated an interest in applying if a vacancy occurs in the Scottish League.

Spartans' Lothian rivals Whitehill Welfare may also consider an application.

Correctamundo Mario. Brooks and his "serious illness" have perfected the art of the news blackout and disappearing act it would appear.

Brookes Mileson and his family are the scum of the earth.

They took this small family club and made it their play thing. Now that they're finished, they have gone into hiding, no comments, nothing. They have had their moment of fame and have happily vanished.

I hope they rot in hell.

I heard he packed in going to the football when they introduced the smoking ban. Quite right too.

#5 Doodoo ... that's a bit strong saying "scum of the earth" isn't it? Looks like Brookes wasn't the most mentally stable as a lot of risk-taking businessmen are and as soon as his family took over his affairs...it was bye bye play toy.

That's showbiz.

I still think Gretna should have gone bust mid-season and Hearts could've got 4 points back and the hobos would maybe have ended up in the bottom six. Mind you that wouldn't have been a big shocker.
