GOOGLE staff attempting to remove images of Sir Fred Goodwin's house have reportedly blanked out his staff quarters instead.
The internet company took action after critics said vandals who attacked the home of the former RBS boss could have staked out his property using the newly-launched Street View.

But instead of removing images of his Grange mansion, they instead removed images of a lodge house in the ground, which is reportedly used by staff working for Sir Fred.

Security experts warned that the level of detail available on Street View would allow someone to plan such an attack.

Police are still investigating the attack on Sir Fred's home.

oh my goodness you can also see JK rowling's house and madonna's house on google maps and for that matter you can see my house. the thing is you don't know where they live so it doesn't matter, however the evening news has told us Fred lives in the grange and even published photos of his smashed up house, so it wouldn't take an idiot to find his house from that information. why not start a decent campain to get rid of all the cctv cameras which actually do invade your privacy.

Ho ho. So we just look for the missing hole in the street then do we?

And it's not as if it's not been shown often enough on TV, together with pictures of documents revealing the street name. (No I'm not going to repeat it here, detestable though the greedy b*****d is for stealing OUR money and ruining OUR largest company through his inflated ego. Hardly a state secret.

"Police are still investigating the attack on Sir Fred's home"

Ha ha . They will be investigating this for quite some time as there must be about 50 million suspects:-))

http://news.scotsman.com/scotland/Thugs-vandalise-Sir-Fred-Goodwin39s.5105936.jp and the Scotsman fails to remove his address from there site. Stop attacking google maps for sensationalism. Take it it's a quiet news day.

Absolute tosh! "the level of detail available on Street View" is nothing compared to walking past the place once with your eyes open. It's ridiculous that anyone would object to everyone being able to see on Street View what anyone already can see on a stroll.

I wonder if anyone is chasing up finding out who the guy without a helmet riding a motorbike behind the Street View photography vehicle on Greendykes Road is? There's a reason for the police to be interested in Google Street View.

#5 - you're quite right. I had no idea till now where Sir Fred's house is but the information given was quite sufficient to clarify that his house is in *********** **. Very nice, too.

Streetview did not vandalise Goodwin's house. Criminals did and what they did was reprehensible. It is more likely to be counter-productive as it might alienate public opinion from the proper legal measures to persuade Goodwin to return his morally ill-gotten booty.

Any form of technological improvement can be used for good and bad - much of it being used for the bad first - eg porn on the internet. But would you be without the internet? Eg spam email - but would you be without email? Eg the wheel can be used for criminal getaway cars - but would you be without the wheel?

I am inclined to suspect that high profile figures and their property were attacked before Streetview was invented. What was its role in the assassination of Airey Neave at the House of Commons?
