Galloway tells of mob attack

FIREBRAND MP George Galloway has told how he was attacked at Glasgow Airport by a sectarian mob.
The Respect MP claims he was kicked, threatened and taunted by six men as he arrived on a flight from London. Police are said to be investigating CCTV footage of the incident.

Mr Galloway reportedly said: "It was a terrifying experience and quite disgraceful for these people to behave like this. There was one guy I would describe as a ringleader who said, 'I don't like your radio talk, I don't like your newspaper talk, I have a religious duty to knock you down'."

No doubt George will be commending himself for his own indefatigability.

If ever anyone was in need of a slap it is George Galloway, he makes Tony Blair look most modest by comparison.

Although there is no need to justify this behaviour through religion, it was more of a service to humanity!

When I first read this article the words "sectarian mob"led me to suspect that Glasgow Rangers supporters were involved.However when one of the thugs mentioned religion,I immediately removed that group of supporters from my suspect list. I would like to wish George Galloway a speedy recovery.

Quite a few mindless thugs on here, much like those that targetted George. Bit defensive because of their lack of a brain no doubt.

The police will get them, I have complete confidence in that.

I hope the police catch the ‘sub humans’ who harassed Mr Galloway. Unfortunately we here in Glasgow have another 7-8 weeks of the Orange Walk season, perhaps George is the lucky one as he won’t need to put up with it!

It's not even about religion anymore.
The majority of bigots I know don't go to church or chapel or even believe in God.
Both sides of the argument are brainwashed at home and sometimes at school from childhood until they ultimately become part of the gang which then governs what colours they wear, what team they support, what pub they drink in, the company they keep etc etc etc.
What a sad situation to see there's still so many narrow-minded people in Scotland and Ireland in this day and age.

Religious belief is indeed an anti-social affliction.

#11 GD got it right about brainwashing from childhood - these people would be very unlikely to form these opinions independently without their parents' influence. Indeed, if by some quirk of fate they'd been born in Afghanistan they'd probably be fighting for the Taliban right now.

The problem is that religious faith is belief without evidence, so by its nature it cannot be shaken by rational argument. This means it can be used to justify all sorts of unpleasant behaviour.

Knowing how George likes to exaggerate things, I suspect it was probably a 2 year old kid in a Rangers strip thumbing his nose at him. This is the man who on TV once referred to Scottish protestants as HUNoveraians, but somehow everyone else is the bigot.

And yes it is so easy to take a pop at someone on an Internet comment, but its pretty sad.

#11 is quite right - most churches/chapels are emptying, but people kid on they are fighting for religious honour. Its the same crap as the murder of Banaz Mahmod - "honour", faith or humanity have nothing to do with this.

Fair enough, but let's face it he's just not a liked man and some of the things he has said & done are likely to anger even the more timid amongst us. Humbling himself on TV before Saddam still sticks in my craw. Controversy follows this man, is this just years and years (long before the Iraq war), War on Want incident etc.. etc.. of smoke without fire or the world's faceless Imperialists (the them)just out to get him? :-)

If this was the way it happened, well im amashed, im a WASP, but i support Celtic in Europe, I do believe in God although im not a churchy kinda guy, and i believe that we are all Jock Tamsons bairns, its a hard enough life without internal bickering, morons are everywhere, George met a couple, but he isnt quite a shy retiring thing himself and his outspoken views are sure to upset people, reading between the lines i cannot see a violent attack here, more like a shoving match exaggereated to the GG viewpoint and publicity seeking monster.

I despise GG, I think he's a money-mad wideboy and a political charlatan who will, if there's justice in this world, go the way of Aitken, Archer and Sheridan, but it was a wicked crime to assault him and the offenders must be caught and severely punished. The sectarian nature of their abuse aggravates the offence.

28. Alasdair, until we see the video for ourselves and hear from any of these '100 witnesses' we have only his word on this. This is his account only.

Let's see it hammered out in a court of law (if it ever even gets there) with real witnesses before we start taking one person's opinion on anything.

Knowing what he is like, it is even likely that he said nothing at all to these people? His story seems to be that they did all the talking, odd then that the controversial bigmouth took this opportunity to shutup.

That this report has elicited such an outpouring of vitriol demonstrates that how brave George G is in maintaining his views and speaking out on some of the most important issues of the day. Anyone in this country who sticks their head above the parapet and takes a stance unpopular with the establishment and media is hounded. This is why folk like George, Tam Dalyell and so on are so important in a democracy. You may not like what they say - but you should defend to the death the right to say things that challenge authority. Keep fighting George.
