SCOTT ARFIELD believes his Falkirk team-mate Tam Scobbie could soon be a shock contender for Scotland senior honours.
But Arfield admits his own future plans revolve around nailing down a place in Billy Stark's Scotland under-21 side.
Ahead of tonight's UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier against group six leaders Finland, Arfield, 19, said: "At the start of th
e season my plan was to get on the bench as many times as possible for Falkirk and appear in the first team as often as possible.
"The way it's dramatically changed is absolutely fantastic.
"My goals have changed since the start of the season. I now hope to keep my place in the first team and establish myself at under-21 level for Scotland."
New Scotland boss George Burley is already looking at the best young players Scotland has to offer and is set to hand caps to Steven Fletcher and Christophe Berra tonight against Croatia.
"Steven Fletcher and Christophe Berra were in our position a few years ago and have done fantastically well to be called up to the full squad," Arfield said.
"I have no doubt there are others in this current squad who could move up in the future. Ross McCormack, Stevie Naismith, Calum Elliot and my team-mate at Falkirk, Tam Scobbie, are all more than capable in my opinion.
Arfield could have a big part to play tonight at Pittodrie, as Scotland look to close the gap on second-placed Denmark to three points, with a game in hand.
The Scots would establish themselves as contenders to finish as runners-up to the Finns, who have won all five of their games so far, should they triumph.
Arfield believes strikers Naismith, Elliot and McCormack can help the young Scots make home advantage count. "I don't see why we can't go and get the win," he said. "Especially when you look at the front three we have."
